Interview with Author- Jane Beckenham

Scribal Love Welcomes Jane Beckenham

Don't Forget To Check Out Jane's Books in our Store!

Today author Jane Beckenham is in happy dancing mode.  The reason?
She’s just signed book contract number 13 – definitely a lucky number in this case!

Tell us a little about the feeling today for book #13.

Well, awesome is really all I can say.  I mean when I started writing about12 years ago, I never dreamed…well, I never kinda got this far down the dreaming track.  Secrets and Seduction is a contemporary novel set here in New Zealand where I live.  I submitted it to my editor Linda at Samhain Publishing.  She liked it…but… ‘oh dear, here comes a rejection,” I thought.
But no. Linda wanted me to ‘New Zealand-ise it a bit more, plus there was a little bit of a conflict thingy I had to fit.

NZ-ise?  Hmm.. Interesting.  Because to me it was simply just a ‘setting’, but of course to readers, and particularly the North American market where my books are sold mostly, NZ (also known as Land of the Long White Cloud – very apt this winter, it seems to have rained daily!), is unique and exotic.

So how did you go about showing it?

First of all I thought about our differences to the USA.
We drive on the left side of the road, we are more similar to England in our laws and politics, and yet McDonalds and Burger King line the streets!

Our indigenous people are Maoris.  It’s our 2nd official language.  And of course one of the main differences is that when you’re experiencing summer, we’re in the depths of winter.

Christmas means beaches and barbecues, sandflies and flip-flops, surfing and hot summer nights.  Christmas means the Pohutukawa tree in all its glorious scarlet bottle brushes lining the shores.

And it’s pavlova (desert)!

Your books at Samhain.  Romeo for Hire and He’s the One, have done extremely well.

Oh, yes. Samhain are great.  HTO has been at #2 on Fictionwise for several weeks in the Romance category and in the top ten on the general fiction list too.  I was so excited, I would go and check it daily, if not several times a day!

Here’s the shortened blurb for HTO;
Taylor Sullivan doesn’t trust Cupid.  Cade Harper doesn’t do commitment, and marriage is a dirty word.  Taylor wants to lose her virginity. Cade knows two things about women. They either abandon him, or use him as a walking bank.  Taylor doesn’t buy anything sight unseen and wants to test the waters with a kiss. Virginity is definitely overrated.

Thanks for dropping by Jane.

No problem, any excuse to procrastinate when my self-imposed deadlines are looming!

Bio: In books Author Jane Beckenham discovered dreams and hope, stories that inspired in her a love of romance and happy ever after.  Years later, after a blind date, Jane found her own true love and married him eleven months later.  Life has been a series of  ‘dreams’ for Jane.  Dreaming of learning to walk again after spending years in hospital. Dreaming of raising a family and subsequently flying to Russia to bring home her two adopted daughters. And of course, dreaming of writing.
Writing has become Jane’s addiction - and it sure beats housework.
