Am Rethinking My Erotic Romance Series and Other Publishing Issues...

Books two and three are complete in The Love Play Matchmaking Service series but my publisher no longer wants them because they no longer publish M/F erotic romances.  But wait, you're problem saying to yourself, the two books below are menages and therefore aren't categorized as M/F erotic romances.

You're right!  However, the next two books in the series are-- I completed them and submitted Book 3 to the publisher of the series Siren Publishing.  They've turned down the books for many reasons, of which I will not go into at this juncture, reasons, in my opinion, make absolutely no sense.

But the gist of their reason for rejecting them is that they Siren no longer publishes M/F non-BDSM romances. That's what they told me. And since book 3 and subsequently, book 4 no longer fits within their new guidelines, I have to decide what to do with them.

I will keep you guys posted with further updates on the situation.

#MidWeekTease-Do I Have To Be Into BDSM To Join? #WIP #HolidayRomance #BestFriends #DatingAdvice

Hi Teasers! It's Clare and I'm back!  Yay!  Been working and you know how it is when "Real Life" gets in the way. But I have been writing. You know I couldn't stop doing that.  I finished the third book in the Love Play Matchmaking Service series.  It's in the second/third draft version and in need of proofing. But it's all there!  Whew!  I hope to have it submitted by mid-November, early December by the latest. See the hot guy below? He is the inspiration for the Hero/hottie for this book!

My inspiration for Brion, the MC of book 3
 in
The Love Play Matchmaking Service series

Brion has been called into the office at work by his best friend and boss Nate Poole.  Nate is concerned about Brion and is encouraging him to go on a date by using Love Play.

Excerpt

“Hey I met my husband and wife through them,” Nate said.

“No offense but what am I supposed to think when you say Love Play?”

“You're supposed to consider the reputable source for this information.  Me. Your best friend. Remember?  The one who asked you to be at my wedding.  The one where you said barely spoke a word to anyone including me.”

“I didn't want to steal your thunder,” Brion said. He shrugged his shoulders.  Nate knew he wasn't much of a socializer.  And he also knew he was godawful at small talk.

“Sucking all of the fun out of the room are the words you should have said,” Nate said.

“You wound up getting married again anyway,” Brion said.“You got to relive the moment probably with chattier friends."

“The second one was a collaring ceremony, I didn't invite you because I knew you would not have wanted to be there,” Nate said.

“You're right,” Brion said.

There were somethings a guy didn't want to see his best friend do, like walking around in a thong while wearing a spiked leather collar or whatever the three of them did during their BDSM thing.

“Getting back to the point, Love Play specializes in people who can't seem to find the right person.  I never told you about it before because they've recently turned into a referral only service.  And as a lifetime member, we are asked to honor our agreement of discretion with them.  But since you are in desperate need of their services, I can tell you everything you want to know about them.”

“Why are they called Love Play?” Brion asked.

“Their mum thought it would like nice on the stationary. How the hell would I know? What kind of dumb arse question is that?  Try again,” Nate said.

“Do I have to be into BDSM in order to join? And if not, are they going to make sign up for some whips and chains course when I do?” Brion asked.

“Since I know you, I won't reach over and slap you for that,” Nate said. “And I'll try not to be hurt at that delicate slight for my proclivities toward feather boas and anal plugs.”

“God no!”

Nate snorted then laughed.

“Seriously.  It's the first thing you talk about during orientation.  It's pretty painless, The Punisher comes in and asks you to pick a safe word then you bend over,” Nate said. “Just close your eyes and grit your teeth. Next question.”

“I'm going to be sick,” Brion said.

“Sit down. I'm only messing with you. No you don't have to do anything you don't want. And for your information, we did not request BDSM when we joined.”

“It was a perk then?” Brion asked.

“A very pleasurable one,” Nate said, smiled and waggled his eyebrows.

“You're still messing with me aren't you?”

“Yes.  God when did you get to be so serious? You really need to get laid.  And quickly. Fortunately, they work fast,” Nate said. “And they're really good.”

“What did they do that was so special?” Brion asked.

“They set me up with my soul mates.”

---

Okay that's all I have for you today.  Thanks for stopping by.  I'm also halfway through the writing process for book 4 in the Love Play Matchmaking Service series and that one is a MM! I can't tell you a lot-- don't want to lose the element of surprise but I can tell you this storyline offers a little of a BDSM twist!

Perhaps I'll post a snippet from that one next week!

In the meantime, check out the list below to find more sexy Midweek Teases!

Happy Reading!

Blurb

Love. Safety. Security. Three notions Demi Durango never thought she’d have, but now that marriage to Kal has given her these luxuries, how far will she go to keep them?

Demi and Kal return to Dolphin Island to begin their married lives together but their first year will be spent apart, with Kal soon shipping out. The night before he deploys, a security breach into Kal’s secret identity puts Demi in danger. He can’t leave her home alone, especially after learning she was the one who launched the inquiry. Will she ever be able to fully live a Domestic Discipline lifestyle and truly and totally trust her husband? Or will Kal be forced to take Jared Masters up on his offer to help teach his sassy wife the island ways?

Demi feels horrible for letting Kal down and would do anything to strengthen her marriage and make her groom happy. To placate her husband, she quickly decides to enroll herself in Chateau Dreambox: the school seems like the perfect place to learn more about living a DD lifestyle. Surrounding herself with like-minded people could help her master the art of submission. But if she still has trouble submitting to her husband, how in the world will she ever allow the professors to instruct her?

Publisher’s Note: This love story contains scenes of domestic discipline and explicitly described adult encounters.

Excerpt

The ferry boat sliced through the salty waters carrying Demi closer to the island. The mystical sea air flowed through her very being, giving her confidence in her submission, telling her it was okay to agree to a domestic discipline marriage, complete with maintenance spankings, punishment spankings, and every other kind of spanking in between. She hated it as much as she loved it; resisted it as much as she craved it.

She stood on the bow of the vessel, all ten fingers curled around the railing to prevent herself from nursing the soreness in her disciplined bottom and focused on a pod of dolphins frolicking in the white-capped waves. She leaned further into the breeze, letting the mystic sea air welcome her home, refresh her soul, nurture her need to submit to her husband. She quivered, hot and wet, and looked at Kal standing next to her. So alpha—so strong. Would she be able to fulfill his needs and submit to him by placing herself over his lap the next time he patted his thigh? Even after a week of practice during their honeymoon, she still had difficulty putting herself into position, but as the ferry slowly inched closer to land, the island’s magic oozed into her pores, and tonight she had every intention of going over his lap without assistance to prove to herself and to him her total commitment to live the domestic discipline lifestyle.

Kal moved behind her wrapping strong, loving arms around her waist and buried his nose into her hair. “Hmm. I wish I could bottle the scent of you up and always carry it with me.”

Demi glowed, his words warming her insides. Kal nuzzled his face against her cheek. “Ready to see our home?”

“The excitement is killing me.” During their honeymoon, Kal had gifted her with pictures of the beach house he had purchased for her, and she barely contained her enthusiasm. Bouncing on her toes, she wiggled her bottom against the front of his trousers. His excitement was instantly evident as he pressed his erection into the recesses of her crack. But his strict words sharply contrasted his throbbing bulge. With his lips to her ear, he said, “Have patience, wifey.”

The endearment touched her soul, and she found that she fully agreed with Kal, for he was right. A lady never rushes. The words from  Inner Peace calmed her, and she settled against his hardness until the boat docked. With her hand in his, she regally let him guide her to his speedy roadster, and then they cruised to the remote section of the island, away from the main tourist attractions.

Soon the crowded seashore gave way to sparsely placed houses and private beaches. A coral-pink house came into view. Sitting along the white sand, it was the most charming house on the strip, and it was all hers and Kal’s.

“Oh, Kal.” She held one hand to her chest as she absently fumbled in the side pocket of her handbag for the keys. She grasped the pink dolphin key chain, and as the car rolled closer, she seized the door handle, ready to spring from the vehicle.

Kal palmed her knee. “Do you need a reminder in patience?”

She quickly checked her disposition, wishing to carry herself as a lady, patient and calm in all situations, a goal Kal had promised to help her reach. She righted herself, gladly straightening her shoulders to thwart any thoughts Kal may have been conjuring about baring her bottom in the driveway and giving her a spanking for all the neighbors to see. Not exactly how she wanted to greet any nearby sunbathers.

“No, sir.” She stilled, never taking her gaze from her house, and waited for Kal to round the car and assist her from the vehicle.

The exquisiteness of her new home, shimmering the color of a coral-pink sunset, stole her breath. The porch railings, trim, and shutters were the color of vanilla ice cream. A few yards past the dunes, the tide ebbed away from the sandy shore, sending a light breeze to tickle her skin and lift her curls. She tugged against Kal’s hand until he stopped.

The house captured all of her attention. A tear jagged to the surface, wetting her eyes. “What did I do to deserve this? To deserve you?”

He chuckled. “You bewitched me with your sweetness.” He caressed her cheek. Tender fingers traced along her jaw, gently pulling her stunned gaze from the beauty sprawled before her to look at him. Kal gulped, his Adam’s apple visibly bobbing in disbelief, his expression of fun and teasing turning to concern. “Demi-Anne Durango, are you crying?”

She swiped a tear. “It’s just… bliss.” She fell into his embrace, melting into him.

“I’ve never seen you cry. Dem, this is a major break—for you to release emotions.” He pecked the top of her head then slightly pulled away to capture the phenomenon. He kissed the happiness rolling down her cheek. “Don’t you see, Dem. Now it will be easier for you to let go when you’re over my knee.”

Kal had made a big-to-do of her lack of tears when he was spanking her bare bottom. He wanted her to use the time she spent draped across his lap to bond with him, to become one with him, even more so than when he made love to her. He had promised the release of her tears would refresh her soul as he spanked the pent-up stress from her, but she refused to see how the two types of crying were related. She playfully smacked his chest. “Show me my house. You big goof.”

He teasingly slapped her bum, and before he could fire off another slap, she gripped the keys in her hold and skipped toward the beautifully constructed staircase hugging the side of the house. Once on the wide porch, she crossed to the closest set of doors and entered through the beachfront, walking into the entry between the living and dining rooms. All windows and space and gorgeous. She breezed through the rooms, noting all Kal’s meager pieces of furniture from his previous bungalow.

“How did you do all this? When?”

“I didn’t. Our family did.”

By family, Kal meant the other agents employed at NASH Global and their spouses. Another tear jabbed at her ducts. They didn’t need to put forth the effort. She swiped. “Wow.”

He took her in his arms. “Demi, they are here for you. When I’m away, anything you need—all you have to do is ask.”

Relying on family was a foreign concept to her. Sure, her brother Neil was great but nothing like this. “They didn’t have to do all this.”

“It’s not much. It’ll take a while for you to Demi-it-up. And I want you and the girls to have a fantastic time decorating the place while I’m away.”

Actually, she saw herself hunched over stacks of documents in need of translating, but wasn’t about to pick that debate just yet. She clung to him. “I wish we could choose the furniture together.”

He kissed her. “Me too, babe, but I can assure you Heather, Abby, and Lexi will be more of an asset than I will.”

She nodded, letting a smile tug at her lips and reach her eyes. “Probably.”

He chuckled. “Hey now. You promised to miss me.”

“And I will.” She slid out of his grasp. Keeping her hand in his, she pulled him through the downstairs, room by room, and then up the stairs into a large nook overlooking the ocean.

The space easily accommodated Kal’s hunky body. He said, “This area would make a great library.” He crossed to the wide window. “We could put some lounge chairs here for reading.”

Where Kal saw shelves of books and relaxing chaises, Demi envisioned a cradle and rocking chair. Murals of teddy bears and yellow duckies adorned the walls. Sailboats too—no rag dolls. She’d have a little girl first. She rubbed her belly in anticipation of becoming a mother, but with Kal leaving on the morrow, she placed her dream on hold  and bounced into the master suite.

Kal’s bed and dresser barely filled the vast area. Her gaze fell on the wooden chair, placed threateningly between two windows against the long wall. Tall back, no arm rests. Embarrassed, she shivered and wondered who could have placed the menacing piece of furniture.

Kal moved behind her, running firm palms up and down the length of her bare arms. His warm touch tapped down the goose bumps. “It is exactly what you are thinking.”

Demi nodded and gulped as a heated awkwardness rushed up her neck and stormed across her cheeks.

Kal pointed to the far corner, flanked by windows. “That one will stay vacant.” He lovingly patted her bottom. “Please remember that when you are purchasing furniture.”

She tucked her chin to her chest, not wanting to think about how Kal expected her to spend time standing with her nose tucked into the narrow space where two walls joined, creating a special spot for her to reflect upon her actions and behavior when she fell short of her goals.

Seconds later, his fingers, gentle and loving, curled under her chin and lifted her face to his. “Dem, do you understand?”

She locked her gaze with his. So hot and commanding. He practically ate her alive with the look, while his dream of culturing a submissive wife dominated the atmosphere. “Yes, sir. I think I’ll paint those two walls a calming blue.”

“I like that idea.” He swatted her rear. “Now go check out the closet.”

With all the flair of a well-bred lady, Demi graced into the large room designed to display clothing. And display it did. Same as on their honeymoon, Kal had stocked the shelves and racks with beautifully crafted designer labels. Demi lost herself in the gift and spent way too long coveting the cedar shoe rack. It was all hers, and she loved it. “How can I ever thank you?” When he provided no suggestion, she turned. Kal had left her alone in the closet. “Hey, where did you go?” She went in search of her husband and had to look no further than the wicked spanking chair.

With his spine rigidly braced against the high back, Kal’s large palm rhythmically patted his muscular thigh.

Oh no. With quick thought, she said, “You should be going. I don’t want to make you late for work.”

His hand kept the even tempo. “I have time to administer one last maintenance spanking, and have dinner with you.”

“How about we eat first?” Nervous laughter bubbled from her. His stern gaze locked with hers; his eyes smoldered with dominance. Looked like she was going to get spanked.

Xander by Valerie Ullmer- When He Heard Her Voice He Knew She Was Supposed To Be His #Shifter #RomanceNovel

He's half-human, half-shifter and all trouble...

Blurb

Xander has secretly yearned for a mate for most of his immortal existence, and yet after three of his friends found exactly what he’s always wanted, he’d come to believe that he’d missed his chance at happiness.

Until he heard her voice.

Frost is a wildlife biologist and tracker and she has been assigned, despite her adamant protests, to lead mercenaries into the mountains of Snowfall, Colorado for the sole purpose of killing immortal shifters.  In order to protect those who have no idea the kind of danger they are in, she agrees.  As she leads the armed men on a wild chase around the snow-covered pines, she could sense that she was running out of time.

Until she heard his voice.

Xander understands exactly who Frost is the moment he hears her thoughts.  With the help of Kane and Gunnar, they eliminate those in her group as they try to keep her safe.  But during the fight, she is hurt and all of his protective instincts flare to life.  As Xander learns more about her, he realizes that Frost might be the key to the creation of the immortals, both vampire and shifter.

But when she becomes a target from those who want to destroy the Dark Company and Xander’s family, how far will he go to save her?

Excerpt

Xander froze when he heard a feminine voice carry over to him, she sounded closer than she had been even a few moments before.  He should have sensed her coming closer.  But the only question on his mind was why the fuck she was tagging along with a group of mercenaries.  He heard the voice again, a tinny version of her voice, and for a long moment he couldn’t understand the words.

Until she stepped forward.

No, no.  Not that way.  Not that way.

Something warmed his chest as he heard her in his head as clearly as they were speaking aloud.  A familiarity washed over him and he felt connected to this woman in an elemental way.  A feeling a peace settled over him.  He knew this was the first time he’d ever heard her voice.  He was so stunned and happy that he didn’t even question how they were able to mind link.

Can either of you hear the woman’s thoughts?

Woman?  Gunnar sounded confused.

Kane’s reply was quick and clipped.  No.

Hello?

Hello?

Xander tried to get her attention.  Can you hear me?

He held his breath when he heard her distinct gasp, knowing that their mind link worked.  His chest filled with dread at the thought that she gave herself away, until he heard her next words.\

“I spotted a grizzly bear in the trees to the west.  Sorry, I startled him and he ran off.”

For long seconds, the men in the clearing stared at the woman before they were ordered to keep searching.

Xander stood close enough that he could see her curves underneath the heavy white parka.  And having the worst timing in the world, Xander felt himself harden.  He took a deep, cleansing breath of sharp mountain air that instantly cooled his overheated body.

Yes, I can hear you.  These men, seven in total, are looking for immortals.  They have been contracted by my boss at U.S. Fish and Wildlife to kill them.  Apparently the immortals are supposed to become animals.  Can you help me without hurting yourself?  They are heavily armed.

Xander was taken completely by surprise.  She didn’t question their connection but instead relayed vital information that he would need.  He could also start to feel her emotions.  She wasn’t scared, just determined.  He could hear her heart beating at a fast rate and her breathing strained from either the hike up the mountain or the tension in the air.  He watched as she subtly shifted her head around as she searched for him, unable to spot him in the trees.

We can help.  I’m going to communicate with my team and we’ll take out the men.  Are you okay with that?

Yes, I know they are paid mercenaries and I’m pissed that they killed a wolf two days ago for no other reason than they wanted to shoot something.

What’s your name?

Frost.

Frost, I’m Xander.  When I tell you to run, run south.  Okay?
Yes, I understand.

Xander relayed the conversation he had with Frost.

We are going to have to kill them, there’s no other way around it.

They couldn’t have a threat looming over them, especially if one escaped and brought in a stronger, more trained group of mercenaries.  Although they could easily defeat any group of fighters, keeping their existence a secret was crucial.  The more humans that knew about them, the bigger the danger it posed.

Working as a team, they closed in on the unsuspecting mercenaries.  At first, they quietly removed those men who were stationed on the outer perimeter, using knives to subdue them, or in Xander’s case, using his bare hands and quickly snapping their necks.  He didn’t want Frost to see blood on him.  The only sound he could hear detect was the grunts of the men who were dispatched.  By the time Gunnar, Kane, and he closed in on their ranks, there were only three mercenaries remaining.

The older man spotted movement in Gunnar’s direction and without hesitation raised his weapon and started firing.  The wolf easily dodged the shots before melting farther into the trees.  Silence descended upon the area as the man searched for Gunnar.

Frost, run south, keep as low as you can and use the trees as cover.

The Billionaire Shifter’s Second Chance by Diana Seere- #RomanceNovel #Shifters #MF #PNR

A wildland firefighter -- and mountain lion shifter -- Edward is the youngest of the Stanton siblings, and hasn't touched a woman in a decade, not since his late fiancée was killed in a violent tragedy.

But when he meets the sweet, adorable Molly Sloan, a friend of his new sister-in-law, Lilah... his determination to remain celibate begins to unravel.

Something about Molly is irresistible. Something about her makes him forget the past... and hear the Beat. But Edward will have to fight for her -- forces are gathering to use her in ways that might separate them forever.

The Billionaire Shifter's Second Chance is the third book in the Billionaire Shifters Club series by Diana Seere, the paranormal pen name for two New York Times and USA Today bestselling romantic comedy authors. This book is a standalone *within* a series.

* * *

Welcome to the most exclusive club in the world. The Novo Club. Novo is Latin for “change.” Our members prefer the word “shift” though.

It’s the hottest club in town.

The price of membership is your heart and your secrecy.

All you need to do to join is to be loved beyond your wildest imagination by someone powerful with an…alpha side so primal it’s in their blood.

Are you ready?

Good. Then let’s begin.

The Billionaire Shifters Club is a new series featuring the five Stanton siblings, four brothers and one sister who are all part of an ancient shifter family living in modern America. The subterranean club-within-a-club beneath the streets of Boston, Massachusetts holds secrets only the Stantons and their fellow shifters know.

Excerpt:

“Why are you so twitchy?” Sophia asked.

The art exhibit for their brother’s paintings was quite lovely, but Edward Stanton was beginning to deeply regret being a supportive sibling. Leaving his home in Montana, where the air smelled like freedom and people didn’t glare – because there were so few actual people – and coming to this festering hellhole called Boston gave him good reason to twitch.

His sister’s words made him groan inwardly, though. If he told her the truth, she would belittle him. If he lied, she would smell it on him.

Of course she would. She was a bear shifter, with a nose most vintners would kill to possess. Sophia could smell emotions. She could sniff out subterfuge and intrigue, sex and anger. He was certain she could smell lottery ticket winners, if she tried.

Not that a billionaire heiress would need such a skill.

Edward steeled himself, wishing he could hide scent the way he had trained himself to hide emotion. Even shifters had limits, sadly.

“I’m tired. The jet seats weren’t comfortable,” he lied. A powerful hum from some sort of heating and cooling system kicked in, making his back teeth rattle. How much longer must he stay to be polite? The city was full of too many unexpected vibrations and jolts, sounds like jeers and mockery. His head began to throb, a steady beat taking over.

Sophia rolled her eyes and took a small pastry from a tray as a server passed by, stuffing it in her mouth. “You are the worst liar ever. Didn’t you learn a thing from Derry? You would never guess you’re brothers.”

Half brothers, he thought. Of the five Stanton children, Edward was the only one without a full sibling. He was also the only mountain lion shifter. He needed to roam. Desired space.

Craved land.

Downtown Boston, at an art gallery packed into a gentrified district where people lived in apartments the size of thumbnails, was the absolute opposite of what he wanted right now.

But they were here to support Derry in his art, and by God, he would fake his way through this.

Even if Derry just ditched them to reunite with his human mate, the limo speeding them off to Derry’s loft, leaving his cheerleading squad stuck in this gallery, eating overcooked rumaki and pretending to enjoy the other exhibits.

“I know you hate the city,” Sophia said, her voice dropping into a compassionate whisper. “But that was years ago, a random tragedy. We can help you. It’s sweet of you to come here for Derry.”

Edward’s body went cold. He didn’t want to talk about the past. And he certainly did not want to talk about the last time he was in Boston.

“Super sweet!” Molly, his sister-in-law’s friend, approached him and Sophia, her bright blue eyes overly friendly, cheeks flushed with excitement or wine. Or both.

His body responded to her presence, skin heating up, muscles expanding as blood pumped with a ferocious, almost-unfair speed designed to make him ready for...

For something he’d given up a decade ago.

The Hotter the Love by Lea Bronsen-The More He Looks The More Her Beauty Takes His Breath Away #Contemporary, #Erotic, #Romance, #MF

Hi and thank you so much for hosting the third and last book of the Hot Model Mine trilogy!

After sexy cover model Yushka proposed, life is more turbulent than ever for erotic romance author Andrea. He is expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend, who says she doesn’t want to keep it. How will Andrea's sons take upcoming life changes? To make things more complicated, her ex goes to great lengths to coax her back, and one of her sons' girlfriend is a tad too interested in Andrea's young and very handsome fiancé...

On the writing front, Andrea anxiously awaits news on her latest manuscript submission, and she has to decide whether to accept her publisher's offer to model in a sexy photo shoot—the same kind she and Yushka did in Cannes—in the hopes of making a new "Cover Photo of the Year". Considering the erotic poses the previous photographer demanded, can Andrea model with another guy other than Yushka?

Excerpt

We enter a hall so big the tiniest sound echoes. It’s quite humbling. I shrink in my clothes and barely dare to breathe. Dark wood furniture towers over us, with a mix of contradictory smells—orchid-scented sanitizer and old dust—filling the space.

Shoes clamping on a hardwood floor, we follow the tall, silver-haired man into a living room with exquisite furniture, gold-framed mirrors, and classic paintings on the walls. Heavy velvet curtains adorn the windows, and an impressive floor-to-ceiling library on one side has to contain literary curiosities from every part of the world. Marveling, I study each magnificent object.

The man stops and glares across the room, his facial expression clearly one of annoyance. What an oppressive atmosphere.

Yushka stands beside him and stares in the same direction.

I follow their gaze. A young and strikingly beautiful woman is half-seated on a green velvet couch with her legs folded underneath her. Dark doe eyes and pink lips stand out in a pale, oval face. A waterfall of rich, glowing auburn-colored hair contrasts with her white dress. She looks cast in a scene from the Russian classic Doctor Zhivago. Beneath full breasts, a pregnant belly protrudes, far too round and big for her frail frame. Jekaterina?

My chest tightens. The more I look at her, the more her beauty takes my breath away. She’s the woman Yushka was in love with last year. The one he slept with and impregnated.

Her gaze is riveted on him, the recognition and warmth fiery.

I shoot him a glance. His features are tight, as if he’s trying to hide his reaction, but he doesn’t take his gaze off her. This is exactly what I feared. They’ve had feelings for each other. Maybe meeting now will revive them. He has fallen for her once, so why would he not fall for her again?

I feel bad, nauseous, want to get out of here. But she’s carrying the baby girl I’m going to call mine very soon. I need to overcome my unease. Hopefully, once the formalities are done, this is the only time we’ll have to meet.

She tells him a few words in Russian, her voice the cooing of a turtledove.

Yushka replies calmly, but his throat sounds choked. He grabs my hand, palm sweaty, and leads me to a sofa opposite hers. His discomfort is more than clear in his features. He tears his gaze from her and searches me, his expression vibrating with an intensity I seldom see. It hits me—he’s afraid.

I squeeze his hand. “Is everything okay?”

“Yes,” he replies instantly, but his tension is palpable.

My chest tightens to a painful level. What is he so nervous about? From his interaction with Jekaterina, this has nothing to do with the baby. It’s about them, their relationship, and me. Is he afraid he’ll have to choose between us?

Goodness, I’m delirious. I sit very still, take small, shallow breaths, and pray for everything to be all right. Then bolt out of this house after the arrangements are resolved.

Jekaterina addresses me, her dark pupils glimmering. “You’re very beautiful. Are you a model, too?”

I’m as taken aback by her speaking a fluent English as I am by her compliment, and need a few seconds to shake myself. “Um, no, I’m not.”

She raises a brow. “That’s funny. I would’ve sworn you were a model. So how did you two meet?”

“At an author conference.”

Yushka clears his throat. “Andrea writes books, and I’m featured on the cover of her last one.”

“Oh, how exciting.” Her lips curve upward. I can’t decide whether it’s a genuine smile or she’s faking it.

“Yes,” he continues. “That’s why we … uh … were bound to meet. They had organized a Meet-and-Greet for authors and cover models of their books.” Why does he sound like he’s trying to make an excuse?

She flutters her long lashes at me. “What kind of books do you write?”

Before I can answer, her father walks over to a cabinet and picks up a bunch of papers. “All right, enough chit-chat.” His voice booms like thunder.

Evermore; A Paranormal Erotic Fantasy by Tmonique Stephens. Book 3 in the Descendants of Ra Series.

Blurb

There is no such thing as a chance meeting.

There’s no room in Avery Nicolis’s life for an obsession, yet why else does he stalk Emeline Gamble. Lurking in the shadows, he hungers for a woman he can’t have. Between the secrets he guards and anarchy roiling in his soul, his only solace are his glimpses of Emeline. He will resist her, protect her from himself, and deny his desire to claim her heart.

Emeline Gamble was a Watcher for the Order—a secret society of women charged with monitoring the offspring of the gods. For months, she observed Avery Nicolis, an elite mercenary, Descendant of Ra, and enemy of the Order. Never knowing he had her in his crosshairs.

Trapped in a lie, Emeline is forced to accept Avery as her bodyguard. Compelled to spend time with him, she learns to care for his tortured soul and see the hero lurking beneath the assassin’s façade.

But every word out of her mouth is a lie. Every action a betrayal. Because to save her family she is forced to accept a new assignment, deliver Avery Nicolis to the Goddess of Chaos, alive…

And do not fall in love with him.

EXCERPT

Tires squealed to a stop. It wasn’t long before a pair of combat boots came into her line of sight. Strong hands scooped her up and cradled her against a broad chest encased in a leather coat. Warmth surrounded her, made her want to burrow closer to his heat. Male musk and a hint of something else, something dangerous filled her nostrils.

“I got you.” His voice, guttural and so damn sexy, rumbled through her.

No, he was on the hook. And she had just reeled him in. Her teeth chattered from the cold, his heat, her nerves, the lies.

Avery opened the passenger door and carefully sat her on the leather seat. He hit the overhead lights and gently took her chin between his thumb and forefinger. Calloused fingers brushed her hair away and angled her face toward the light.

“Who did this to you?” Low, his voice promised retribution.

“I didn’t get their number.” She tried to pull away, but he wouldn’t let her. His intensity made her insides squirm.

“I’ll take you to the hospital.”

“No.” She touched his hand. “It’s okay, not as bad as it seems.” She wiggled her jaw and managed only a slight grimace.

He leaned closer. All of him filled her vision. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”

Captured by his heated stare, she shook her head.

“How many were there?” His finger trailed over her cheek and down her neck.

Her thoughts kinda fizzled at his touch. “Who are you?” She remembered to ask again. He gave her a quizzical look, possibly thinking of a lie, she wondered. Her phone rang. Emeline fished it out of her purse and answered without looking. She listened to Zackary pound his chest about hiring a bodyguard for her. He was so proud of himself and expected a reward. The sick hope in his voice almost made her laugh.

“Describe him.” She ordered watching Avery.

“Big guy, bald, pissy attitude. I wanted his brother, but he volunteered,” Zachary said.

“Thanks, Zachary. I owe you one.”

“Really? Well—”

She pressed end. “So you’re my bodyguard?” Perfect. Zachary finally did something right.

“Until I get someone else.” He stepped back and slammed the passenger door closed.

Why accept the job only to get someone else? Nerves made her stomach flutter as she watched him walk around the front of the Range Rover and climb into the driver’s seat. “Do you have a name or shall I make up one?”

“Avery,” he said without looking at her. The car rumbled to a start. Something loud and angry blasted from the speakers. He clicked it off, though she didn’t mind. She preferred Hip-Hop, R&B, and a little bit of Rap. No love songs, though Luther Vandross could put the most celibate body in the mood.

“Emeline,” she offered when he didn’t ask. A giggle threatened to escape, but her bruised ribs would have none of it. ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.’ Well we are both, well and truly tangled.

“Something funny?” He pulled into traffic.

He’s observant as a killer or watcher should be. No more lapses. She had to be on guard. Emeline noticed his hands gripping the steering wheel. Big capable hands. “Two men. They wore masks. Tried to steal my purse.” He glanced at the satchel in her lap. Damn, she should’ve insisted they take it.

“Two men, one purse?” His gaze locked on hers. “Why do you need protection, Miss Gamble?”

She hadn’t told him her last name. She could call him on it, but he’d say Zachary told him, so she let it slide.

“I don’t. I’m not the one who hired you.”

“Your ex is very concerned about you welfare.”

“You know a lot about me in such a short time, Mr.—what is your last name?” The car rolled to a stop at a red light. His head turned to her and she shifted in her seat to keep an eye on him.

“Nicolis. Your ex filled in a few blank spots before I caught up to you. Anything else you want to know?”

“Yeah. Did he fill you in on where I live too ‘cause we’re real close?”

His eyes narrowed and he glanced at the surrounding area. The light turned green. “Your boss said someone broke into your house. Beat up you and your grandfather. Now you’re attacked on the street. Your enemies, who and where are they?”

She lives in a big house on Riverside Drive. I will take you straight to her. “I don’t have enemies.”

“We all have enemies,” he growled. “Some closer than others.”

Ain’t that the truth.

Adult Excerpt

A shift in the air alerted him that he was no longer alone. The hesitant whisper of feet gliding across the carpet revealed his intruder. And her scent. She smelled of him—of sandalwood and the night—mixed with her womanly aura that spiked his blood. A growl rumbled in his throat. Could he not have a moment alone? Maybe if he didn’t move she’d go away and leave him to finish meditating.

Silence stretched painfully until curiosity made him open one eye. She sat in front of him, so close he could count the treasure of gold flecks sparkling in her hazel eyes. Her gaze skimmed his face, leaving a trail of hunger he no longer wanted to deny. Her eyes widened when they dropped to his scars. Pity welled.

“Leave. Now.”

Her gaze shot to his. Questions danced in her eyes. Questions he refused to answer. It would serve no purpose to spill his guts to a woman who considered him damaged, less than any other man. Her hand stretched forward. Avery almost leaned into the touch, he craved her that much. But not while pity surfed in her hazel eyes. He’d have none of it.

“Don’t,” he snarled and grabbed her hand.

“It’s…” Her voice wavered.

He held his breath, waiting for her to finish her sentence with any of the words on his personal list: ugly, grotesque, monstrous.

“Beautiful.”

Huh? He hadn’t heard right. Didn’t she see the scars, ravaged skin, and muscles beneath the ink?

“It’s changed. It didn’t look like this before.”

Shit! Sometimes his Ink did change from one indiscriminate mass to a slightly different indiscriminate mass.

“Now it’s intricate with swoops and swirls. Curlicues.”

Curlicues? Not possible. Her hand kept coming. He’d never let anyone touch it, not even during sex. Yet…he wanted her to touch him—all of him—but that was not going to happen. “I did it to hide the scars. Make it pretty. Didn’t work.” He lied.

Again, her hazel eyes filled with skepticism and her hand kept coming, as if he hadn’t ordered her not to. He was about to push her away when her fingers veered to his face. His breath caught, stilled by the possibilities of the moment.

She traced his face with soothing, lazy fingers. Her eyes, fringed with long, sooty lashes, were focused, intent on the torture she inflicted on his flesh. A gleam of interest sparked in their depths and a sultry smile tugged at the corners of her full lips. He’d dreamed this fantasy, never expected it come true. It was wrong to want more, yet her gaze caressed his skin.

Her hand dropped and she swept her thumb over the slight scar on his forearm, a reminder from the fight with her intruders. A jolt raced through him and he sucked in a startled breath.

She studied the slight demarcation. “Your wound? It’s gone. Want to explain?”

Kiss her, part her soft pouty lips and taste her. He shrugged. “Genetic anomaly. I heal fast.” He waited for more questions, but she surprised him when she cupped his face, and rubbed her palm over his day-old stubble. Desire flooded his system, turning the darkness within him into a sea of need.

Take her. Take what you want. Spread her. Fuck her. Take. Take. Whispered, taunted, and finally screamed. Avery balled his hands and kept them at his sides, anything to keep from humiliating himself. If only he could lock away his unending need, treat her as a client and not the only woman who’d ever made his blood simmer.

If he could do that, then he could walk away, but a little bit of Emeline wouldn’t be enough. And if he couldn’t have all of her, he’d rather have none.

He had to leave.

Her hands slid down his neck to his shoulder, and brushed his burn. Avery jerked away. The skin sizzled, as if freshly torched, but it wasn’t pain that seared his body.

“W-what? What did I do?” Her lovely eyes filled with concern.

Her stuttering mimicked his fluttering heart. When she touched his scar, all his nerve endings were zapped. He felt her soft hand stroking him, when his damaged skin hadn’t sensed anything in more than two decades.

“How did this happen?”

Though he never wanted her begging for anything, ever, Avery shook his head. Those dark memories didn’t belong here, tainting this moment. He took her hand, caressed the smooth back, and brushed her knuckles.

“Tell me,” she whispered and squeezed his fingers.

He brought her fingers to his tortured skin. “Touch me again.” The unspoken ‘please’ hung in the air between them.

Emeline hesitated, and for long seconds he suffered in anticipation. Then she slid her hand from his elbow to his shoulder over the burned skin. Bliss roared through him, leaving his restraints in tatters.

His head dropped back. Lust, potent and violent, clawed through him as never before. Did he moan or did she? The blood storming through his body and pounding in his ears muffled everything except her hand on his flesh. No one had ever come close to making him feel this way. No one, but Emeline with her luscious lips and arresting eyes. With her coy scent and fat curls bouncing on her shoulders, making her eyes do a peek-a-boo dance. Beneath the towel, his cock turned to stone.

She moved away and he nearly screamed at the loss. He grabbed her, couldn’t stop himself from hooking her around the waist and sliding her body under his.

Her hand braced against his chest. “I-I’m not having s-s-sex with you.”

Sex? Is that all she thought this was? He wished the feelings she evoked in him were so simple. Sex he could get anywhere, with anyone. With Emeline, he wanted all that she would give…and more. More he could never have.

She’d said no, though her half-mast eyes were dreamy, waiting for his next move while her tongue flicked out and stroked her bottom lip. Damn, burying himself inside her and never coming out sounded like an epic plan, but her breathy words shackled him.

“Just touch me,” he said. He was ready to demand that she place her hands on his skin.

Her bottom lip trembled and a sliver of fear entered her gaze. “I don’t want to hurt you,” she rasped.

Her words already had. They doused his desire and delivered an unwanted dose of reality. This was wrong on every level and at least one of them had the balls to admit it.

“Same here.” He didn’t want to hurt her either, and that’s exactly where this would lead. Nothing about him had changed. He was still a mercenary, dealt in death. Family obligations came before all of his longings and always would. Let her go, whispered through him.

I will…in a minute.

Slowly, her hands went from fists, ready to push him away, to warm palms and splayed fingers on his pecs. “Why did you agree to be my bodyguard? The truth.”

Heat traveled from her to him, straight to his cock. He leaned into the touch, seeking more. “Because I couldn’t take my eyes off you. Still can’t.”
