Ball gowns and bite marks…

Blurb

Mari Di Bartolo was a witch coming back to her roots in Salem. Juggling work and school, she is a woman on a mission until she is attacked one night after work and left for dead. When Mari is about to step through the veil, she is given a choice-become a vampire or fade away. She chooses life. Nevertheless, it’s not her new Sire that holds Mari’s attention, but the strange and enigmatic Fae with the golden green eyes. Full of mischief and mayhem, the night of the Vampire Ball is upon her and all that glitters may just be her teeth in the moonlight.

Darkness lurks in the shadows…

Fenris is the Captain of the Guard for the Queen of the Dark Court. For centuries he’s secured the barrier between the human world and Faery, part of a Protectorate that keeps humans blissfully ignorant of the beings hidden in their midst. But when another rogue wolf attack brings him to a crime scene, he remembers another girl with long dark hair and eyes that spoke to his soul. On a night filled with wild magic, there will be blood and some of it might just be given willingly.

Excerpt from Sanguine Shadows by Erzabet Bishop

Her eyes widened and her lips parted and he caught a glimpse of fang. “I…didn’t know you cared.”

“If I didn’t, why would I have convinced Roark to turn you?” He tugged her closer, the push of her breasts against his chest making it hard to concentrate on mere words. He’d known she was meant for him from the first second he’d seen her but he had to let Roark take her or risk her dying.

“You don’t know me. I was just a girl on the street. A human not worth your consideration.”

Fenris didn’t miss the hurt in her eyes. Perhaps he had been wrong leaving her alone. He’d been convinced he was right letting her assimilate unhindered into her new life. He also couldn’t fault her reasoning. She was right. They had no claim on one another, only an attraction that blazed to life in the most untenable of situations.

But she was wrong on one account. He had noticed her before-just not in a way he might have acted upon. Human and supernatural interaction was forbidden but he was unable to let her die. Not like that.

He wasn’t able to stop thinking about her and hadn’t since that night.

“I did notice you, witchling. How could I not?” He lifted a finger and traced the side of her face, his cock hardening at the moan that slipped unbidden from her lips. “You burn inside of me. Only I couldn’t act. Not until then. But I had to save you. To do anything else…”

He let his voice trail off and watched her reaction.

Mari blinked and reached forward, pressing her lips to his. “It’s like a fire, isn’t it? A fire in the blood.”

“Oh Gods, yes.”

“Well?” Roland stared at me expectantly, his brown, overly bushy eyebrows raised high in query. “Do you think you’re up to this?”

I tried not to glare at him but failed miserably. Just because at five foot five I was a lot shorter than the other hunters, with bouncy blonde curls and a petite frame, I often got treated like I was weaker than them—fragile even. It had been the same way my entire life and I was tired of it. I was just as capable if not more so than the majority of the hunters I’d trained with, both women and men. I worked damn hard to make sure I was always in shape and that my skills were honed to perfection. I’d killed a lot of vampires and there was nothing I detested more than people like Roland—my new handler at the Hunters’ Council—underestimating me.

Just like my parents before me and their parents before them, I’d been born a slayer. It was in my blood. I hadn’t chosen my profession on a whim and I resented Roland’s question. Why wouldn’t I be up to the task? It was my job. I did it every single day without fail, and I excelled at it.

“Just give me the details,” I said through gritted teeth, amazed I’d refrained from calling him an asshole.

Roland chewed on his bottom lip as he studied me. He must have seen something in my expression that swayed him because he sighed heavily then nodded his head. “Fair enough. Though I do need to warn you, this job is…unusual.”

I drew my eyebrows together while I waited for Roland to elaborate, but when he wasn’t forthcoming, I asked, “Unusual how, exactly?”

As a slayer, it was my job to kill vampires and the odd werewolf who had gone rogue. We rarely got involved in issues with any other supernatural species, however, so Roland’s statement intrigued me.

“Well, there’s this angel,” he began, averting his gaze from mine. “And this demon…”

“Oh, hell no!” I started backing away from his desk as though there was something on it that could bite me. “No way.”

I might have been great at my job, but demons were an entirely different kettle of fish. I’d heard that they could kill you with just a look. In my experience angels weren’t much more accommodating. If this job involved either, then Roland might very well have been right—maybe I wasn’t up to this task.

It was only when Roland’s gaze met mine, his expression challenging, that I realised he’d tricked me. We’d only worked together for a short time, but he was well aware how much I hated people thinking I wasn’t capable, that I couldn’t do the job as well as the other hunters who were bigger and stronger than me. He’d used that fact to his advantage and I was impressed. My face broke out into a wide grin.

“You sneaky son of a bitch!”

Roland puffed out his chest like a damn peacock. “Thanks. I’ll take that as a compliment. So, about this demon issue…”

“Fine,” I muttered begrudgingly. “But if I die on this job, I’m coming back to haunt your ass. Count on it.”

Roland turned his back to stare out of the only window in his small office at Council headquarters, but not before I noticed a slow smile spreading across his lips. “You know, I always figured you for a glass-half-full kind of gal.”

I pointed to the back of his head and threw in a glare for good measure. “Roland? Don’t push your luck.”

 * * * *

Standing outside the ranch-style house, I knocked on the door then took in my surroundings as I waited for an answer. Roland had put me in touch with Raven, an old colleague of mine, and when I’d spoken to her on the phone earlier, she’d told me to meet her here. I hadn’t seen her in years so I had no idea what she could be doing in a place like this. It was a nice home in a nice area.

Hunters moved around so often that we didn’t put down roots. We lived out of suitcases in low-rent motels until we hung up our stakes and decided to pop out a few kids who would be trained to be the next generation of hunters. Well, that was what most of my colleagues did. I liked my job too much to ever see myself settling down with a husband and a house full of rug rats.

From what I understood, Raven had been tasked with finding one of twenty-something grimoires which were scattered around the country. Demons had decided to escalate the war against angels which had until recently been contained. The grimoires held secrets on how to raise demons from the Underworld, but the ultimate goal was to raise Lucifer himself. To do this the demons needed to get their hands on the grimoires. This was not good news. My fellow hunters and I had enough problems dealing with all the damn vampires and now we had to deal with demons too.

The book that Raven had been tasked with finding had been in the sights of a demon. Raven had recovered the book, but she’d only barely made it out with her life, so her handler at the Council had called in the help of the other slayers. The race was now on to find the rest of the books before they fell into the hands of demons.

Waters of Fate, Book 2 of The Fey Series by Jessica Jarman.

What’s a Princess to do when the man Fate has chosen for her denies her?

Blurb

As a Princess of Fey, Neiva has led a privileged life. When she sees her mate in the Waters of Fate, she is shocked at who Fate has paired her with. When he refuses her again and again, her shock quickly turns to anger.

Rhys has been friends with the King of Fey for centuries. Surely, Fate would not be so cruel as to mate him with his friend’s daughter? Never mind that he hears the Song of Souls when she is near—she has mistaken the situation, and he must let her down gently.

After yet another denial from Rhys, Neiva decides it’s time to move on. She leaves the Fey Realm and goes to the human world—the world of her mother—determined to find some semblance of happiness. Rhys is given the duty of watching over her while she is there—a task that drives him mad with desire and frustration. But danger has followed Neiva there. Now she is not only in danger of losing her heart, but also her life.

Publisher's Note: This is an extensively revised and updated version of a previously released title.

Excerpt

Neiva, Princess of Fey, wandered through the gardens surrounding the royal residence. She hadn't a clue where her friends had gone. Off flirting with boys, no doubt. She rolled her eyes. Goddess, they were so daft at times. She couldn't understand why anyone would act so silly just to impress boys. And really, did it impress them? If it did, boys were even dafter than girls.

She hummed as she walked. It felt great to be away from lessons and tutors for a while. Sometimes, she simply wanted to be alone. That was a rare occurrence. Though Dad said it would only get worse, and she should enjoy this “carefree time." Neiva snorted. What did he know? He hadn't been fourteen in centuries.

A rustling to her left caught her attention, and she stopped. The hedges parted to reveal a path. She tilted her head, trying to see where it led. She’d never noticed it before. Curious, she started down the narrow trail. It wound farther and farther away from the formal gardens. A part of Neiva’s mind told her to turn back—her father would be furious if he knew she was in unfamiliar areas without protection—but she continued on. Something was drawing her. She didn't know what, but she couldn't sense anything bad or harmful.

The overgrown path opened up to a small glade. In the center, a pool of water stood surrounded by a rough stone wall. Neiva approached and peered into the water. It was crystal clear; she could see the flat stone lining the bottom. Tentatively, she dipped a finger. The cool liquid began to swirl at her touch.

“Good afternoon, Princess.”

Neiva jolted and spun toward the voice.

“I’m sorry I startled you.”

A young woman stood barely a foot away. How had she approached without Neiva’s notice? Even if she had flashed into the small clearing, Neiva would have felt the disturbance on the air.

“Good afternoon,” she answered. “I don’t know you. How is it you know who I am?”

“Everyone knows the Princess of Fey.”

Neiva felt her cheeks heat, embarrassed at the obvious answer.

“I’m Mara. You look lost, Princess. Is there something I can assist with?”

She squinted slightly as she studied the woman. Why did she have to wander away? Now she was alone, in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar person. This was the type of situation her father lectured about constantly. Though the woman appeared harmless.

“I’m not lost,” she insisted. “The pool called to…” She stopped herself from finishing the sentence. People thinking she was crazed was not a good thing.

Mara smiled. “It called to you. Of course. That is the way it often is. Have you looked within?”

Neiva frowned. “At what? It’s just water.”

“Look again, dear one,” Mara encouraged.

Uneasiness caused Neiva’s stomach to clench. “Why? What am I looking for? What is this place?”

Mara laughed, and Neiva closed her eyes at the beautiful sound. It traveled on the wind and wound around her, like a living thing. It soothed her, calmed the tightness inside her.

“So distrustful. Wonderful! Your parents have done a fine job. Have you heard of the Waters of Fate?”

“Of course.” Neiva rolled her eyes. Everyone knew about the Waters. “They tell you whether you have a true mate. Sometimes, they’ll only show enough for you to know you have one, and sometimes, they’ll actually reveal who it is.” She glanced at the pool. “These are the Waters?”

“They are indeed. Have you looked within?” she repeated.

“All I saw was water.” Neiva was mortified as tears welled up. “I guess I don’t have a true mate in this life.”

“Perhaps you should look again,” Mara suggested. “You only had a moment before.”

Neiva turned and stepped to the pool. Bracing her palms on the rough stones, she leaned forward and peered into the Waters. After a moment, the water darkened and swirled. Soon, it was churning—a small, contained storm—splashing up on the wall, bathing her hands in coolness.

“Keep watching,” Mara murmured.

In the middle of the chaotic water, images began to form. Neiva could make out the forms of a man and woman. They were embracing. But, Goddess, it was so blurred. She leaned farther. The image sharpened. Her heart stuttered as she recognized herself—or rather an older version of herself. She shifted her gaze, and her heart stopped altogether.

“It can’t be. He’s my mate?” She straightened and turned to look at Mara. “How? How can it be him? My father will never allow it.”

“Never question Fate, Princess. She has paired the two of you together. You are halves of the same soul. Even the King cannot deny or change that.”

Neiva looked into the Waters again, where the man and woman still shimmered on the surface. They looked so happy. Warmth blossomed in her stomach and spread through her body.

“How will I tell him? Blessed Lady Above, how will I tell Dad?”

Again, Mara’s laugh slid around her, comforting her. “You’ll have no need to tell your mate. He’ll know when the time is right. As for the King, you and your mate will find the right moment to inform him. How fortunate you are, Princess. Not everyone finds their other half in this life. He is a good, strong man.”

Neiva knew that to be true, but her head spun over the revelation. “Maybe it’s a mistake…” Her mouth dropped open.

The woman was gone. The glade was empty, save Neiva. She glanced back down. The Waters were clear once again.

She sighed. One thing was certain. She was telling no one about this. They’d think she was insane. She started down the path to the gardens on trembling legs.

Goddess, she had a true mate…

A Disgraced Fae Bonds With A Human In Order To Keep His Humanity In 'Duke Betrayed' by Amber Kell

Blurb

When Duke Hellbur is accused of treason against his people, he bonds with medic Balaze to keep his human form and prove his innocence.

When Duke Hellbur is accused of smuggling Thresls and selling them off to interested buyers, he undertakes a trip to prove his innocence. In order to retain his humanity, Hellbur bonds with a medic named Balaze…who didn’t exactly give his assent to the binding of their souls.

Balaze admired the duke whenever he visited the castle, but finding someone attractive and wanting to be theirs for eternity aren’t the same thing. After surviving the death of his first Thresl mate, Balaze isn’t exactly eager to go through that pain again. However, the duke doesn’t take no for answer.

Those who are guilty will have to be uncovered if the two men ever plan on finding peace with each other. When Hellbur and Balaze go off on an interplanetary adventure, can they find common ground or will their enemies tear them apart?

Excerpt:

Dr Walter Balaze watched Duke Hellbur sleep. The duke’s stillness worried him more than anything. Thresls were difficult to kill, but not impossible. Hellbur had lost a lot of blood through the gash in his head, but no other symptoms of trauma were evident despite repeated scans. Head wounds tended to bleed more than other wounds, but the lack of movement and the duke’s faint pulse had Balaze more than a little worried.

The duke should’ve healed by now. The fact that it was taking Hellbur’s body so long to close a simple wound indicated a deeper issue not detected by the scanner. If Hellbur died on Balaze’s watch, he’d never forgive himself. It would break Balaze’s heart if he couldn’t save him.

“Find out if the duke has any known illnesses,” Balaze ordered the nurse hovering beside him. Information on the duke should be in the medical database. Balaze had studied most of the files on the royals but didn’t remember anything standing out about Hellbur. No warnings had popped up when they’d punched in his patient information.

The nurse grabbed an electronic research pad and typed in the duke’s name. It took a few minutes before she spoke again.

She shook her head. “No. Nothing.”

He looked over her shoulder at the screen. “Hmm. If he doesn’t bounce back I’ll have to look into a transfusion.”

He didn’t like the duke’s colour—too pale to be healthy.

The nurse exchanged a look with Balaze, acknowledging the strangeness of the situation without saying a word.

King-Mate Kreslan entered the room and dismissed the nurse with a tilt of his head. Balaze admired the speed with which the nurse departed, wishing he could go with her. Kreslan made him nervous. The King-Mate sent out vibes more feral than any wild Thresl he’d ever met.

Kreslan waited until the nurse had left before closing the door behind her.

“What can I help you with, Your Majesty?”

He tried to stay still beneath Kreslan’s intense gaze, but the urge to fidget had his feet moving back and forth in an uneven rhythm as he waited for the King-Mate to speak.

“We suspect the duke might have been taking medication to suppress his Thresl half. Unregistered medication. We’re looking for a sample to bring you, but we haven’t been able to dig any up. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you to keep this information to yourself.”

“Why would he do that?” Horror twisted Balaze’s stomach. He couldn’t even imagine how toxic the chemicals had to be to sustain Hellbur’s human form for a prolonged time.

“Because he’s the backbone of the kingdom. Only his contacts and research kept the problems from escalating while Vohne was missing. If he hadn’t helped combat the Purgers, we might still be fighting them.” Kreslan’s swept a cold gaze across the duke. “He might not be my favourite person, but we still need him alive.”

Balaze held back his smirk. Everyone knew Kreslan resented the Duke’s attraction to the king. He wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised if the King-Mate had accidentally forgotten to get the duke help. No one stood between Kreslan and his mate.

“How long has he been suppressing?” Balaze checked the duke’s vitals again. Hellbur’s low heart rate concerned Balaze more than anything. Almost as if the duke’s body had decided to shut down without the stimulus of whatever medication he’d been on. Now that he knew Hellbur had been taking suppressors it changed things.

Kres shrugged. “Possibly decades.”

A chill ran down Balaze’s back. With the death of his mate, the duke should’ve either gone into shock or turned back to his cat form. If whatever drug he’d been taking kept him human and on his feet, it had to be pretty strong. The immense shock to the duke’s system probably had his Thresl nature fighting to take control back. Balaze didn’t reveal to the King-Mate that he doubted the duke would make it through the night. Sudden withdrawal from such a long addiction could easily be fatal.

“I’ll do everything I can to take care of him.” Balaze didn’t know what he could do other than keep watch and try to prevent the duke from dying owing to the stress on his system.

“Good. He’s a pain in the ass, but necessary.” With that blunt statement, Kres turned on his heel and walked out of the room.

Balaze pulled up a stool to sit beside the duke. Whoever had been the Hellbur’s old mate had had an eye for beauty. Balaze ran one finger along the duke’s cheek then quickly jerked his hand back when he realised what he was doing. “I hope you pull through this, Your Grace. Kreslan won’t take it well if you don’t recover.”

Hellbur took in a deep breath. Balaze inhaled with him before he realised what he was doing. He let out his breath and waited a moment, but the duke didn’t do anything more.

“I guess it’s too much to hope you’ll wake up all better, isn’t it? I’d best leave the planet if you don’t make it, huh?”

The duke didn’t open his eyes and answer Balaze’s questions. Balaze ruthlessly squelched his disappointment. Until today he’d only caught glimpses of the duke a dozen times or so, but that didn’t stop his heart from beating a little faster whenever he spotted the familiar blond head. In general, Thresls didn’t have a lot to do with medics unless their human mates were injured, so he’d never exchanged any words with the gorgeous duke.

He knew he shouldn’t be drooling over an injured unconscious royal, but the duke pulled at him—a tug of attraction Balaze hadn’t felt since the death of his own mate. Ten years ago he’d bonded with a Thresl and lost Mills after only three years together. Mills had died in a senseless skirmish during a routine guard duty. The attacker had shoved a sword through the soldier’s heart. Even a Thresl couldn’t survive that.

Reader Advisory: This books contains scenes of multiple MMMMM menage.

Excerpt

Xeno had called Ren the night after Andy’s untimely appearance and asked if it was okay for him to take a couple of days off. He hadn’t exactly lied when he’d told her he had found a new place. He just hadn’t told her where. He wanted to do that in person and when he was with Rex. If anyone could protect him from Ren’s temper it would be his big lover.

Xeno parked behind Renaissance Coffee, Tea and Used Books. One of the things Ren and Rex had done when they’d taken over the business association was to make sure all businesses had parking for their employees. Then they had petitioned the town council to create two large, free public parking lots at each end of Main Street.

The council hadn’t been receptive to the idea until the parking for the town offices had been taken up for a street fair one Friday. Xeno chuckled. He had a feeling his sister and Rex had made sure all the close parking was filled. Those two were sneaky that way.

They’d created signs with the logo of each business on them and given them decals for their employees’ cars. That way they could enforce towing, making the town quite a bit of cash after they’d implemented it. And that money had been put into a special fund for the upkeep of the Main Street area.

He pulled in next to his sister-in-law’s bright yellow Fiat. Xeno smiled. That little car was Maggie’s pride and joy. He climbed out of his Camaro and pulled his backpack off the passenger seat. Locking the car with the key fob, he turned to face the back of the building. Taking a deep breath, he told himself he could do this. Easy.

* * * *

Xeno opened the back door of Ren’s store. Even here, he could hear the hustle and bustle of the baristas and the loud conversations of the Friday-morning regulars. He walked to his locker and stowed his backpack, pulling out his apron. He slipped it over his head and tied it as he walked toward the cacophony at the front.

He pushed his cart through the door and jerked to a stop. Ren was standing there, hands on hips and eyebrow raised. Xeno bit his lip. “Morning.”

“Is that all you have to say?” Ren shifted her weight until one hip rested against the counter and her foot was tapping against the floor.

“Shouldn’t you be helping out in the cafĂ©?” He continued his way to the paperback shelves. Thankfully, one of the baristas called out for Ren’s help.

He didn’t turn and look at her, but knew the expression she wore. Eyes narrowed, jaw clenched tightly. “We will talk. And you will tell me everything.” He heard her footsteps as she hurried to the other side of the shop.

“Boy, I don’t know what you did to get a burr under Ren’s saddle, but I suggest you tell her what she wants to know.” Nina’s soft country drawl always made Xeno smile.

He turned and looked over his shoulder. “Don’t worry. I will. Trust me. I know how to handle Ren.” He winked and continued toward the shelves tucked into a front corner.

He had a feeling the cafĂ© was going to be extremely busy most of the morning. And Ren would be meeting Rex for lunch. Xeno felt his stomach clench. Yeah, that’s what had him worried.
