The Persecution of the Wolves by Lucy Felthouse #PNR #thriller #shifter #MF #MM

Blurb:

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam, Derbyshire all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and have their reasons for keeping quiet. But this secrecy comes at a cost—the brothers can’t risk romantic entanglements.

Then, at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be a large animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts about who—or what—could have done it.

As the brothers fight to clear their names, things are complicated by unexpected opportunities to indulge their lust. Isaac is intrigued by a handsome newcomer to the village, and a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

Can the men prove their innocence, or is their centuries-old secret about to be revealed to the outside world, bringing their carefully-crafted existence crashing down around their ears?

PLEASE NOTE: This book was previously published as Pack of Lies—the content has not changed. The novel also contains both M/F and M/M scenes.

Excerpt:

As Matthew and Isaac Adams opened the front door to their house, the telephone started ringing. Matthew sighed. “Typical. No rest for the wicked. I’ll answer it, you go and get ready for work.”
Isaac nodded and headed off to do as his brother advised. Matthew, the older of the two, walked toward the ringing phone and snatched it off the hook. Then, remembering that the person on the other end of the line would have no idea what a rough night he’d just had, he made the effort to inject some politeness into his tone.

“Hello? Adams residence.” Isaac had told him time and time again that the last part about the residence was old-fashioned, that people didn’t say that anymore, but Matthew couldn’t seem to shake it.

“Hello, Matthew? It’s Richard.” The village vicar’s voice, even though he’d only spoken four words, sounded strained, almost panicked. “You boys just get back?”

“Yeah, a moment ago. Why, what’s up?”

“I, uh… I got a call. A dead sheep has been found up on the moor. Not just dead. Mutilated. Like a wild animal attack.”

An unpleasant feeling wormed its way under Matthew’s skin and his stomach flipped. “Oh?” He paused, then figured he had nothing to gain by not saying the next words he wanted to. “You don’t think it was us?”

The vicar’s gasp was instant, one of genuine surprise. “Lord, no! Absolutely not. I just phoned to let you know and I was wondering if you’d come up there with me and take a look? You and Isaac are probably more qualified than anyone else in the village to tell what did this.”

“Isaac has to work, he just went to get ready. But yes, I’ll come up. I’ll let my brother know where I’m going, then I’ll be straight over. Are you at the rectory?”

“Yes. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Thanks, Matthew. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Matthew hung up the phone with another sigh. The horrible feeling that had crept under his skin and taken over his gut seemed as if it was there to stay, and it was never a good sign. The vicar’s news was surprising, yes, but he also had an inkling that it was going to spell trouble, or at the very least, inconvenience for him and his brother.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his jangling nerves, Matthew walked upstairs and toward his brother’s bedroom. The door was closed. He knocked. “You decent?”

“Yeah,” Isaac replied, “close enough.”

Stepping into the room, Matthew looked at his brother. He was half-dressed, ready for his shift at the doctor’s surgery, where he was a general practitioner. “Sorry to interrupt, mate, but that was Richard on the phone. They’ve found a mutilated sheep up on the moor, and he’s asked me to go with him to check it out.”

Isaac paused with one arm pushed into his shirtsleeve. “He doesn’t think—”

Matthew cut him off. “No. He was quite adamant about that. He just thought we’d be able to help figure out what did it. I explained that you’ve got to go to work, though. I’m going to head across there now and go up with him.”

“I could phone in, let them know I’ll be late.”

Matthew held up his hand. “There’s no need, brother. Relax. Just go to work and help the sick people. I’ll let you know what—if anything—I find out.”

Opening his mouth, then closing it again, Isaac seemed to have thought better of whatever he was going to say. He continued to dress. “All right, I will. But make sure you let me know what happens. Send me a text or something, and I’ll phone you as soon as I have a gap in between patients.”

Matthew grimaced. He hated texting. Hated mobile phones, actually. Technology was one of the things he disliked most about modern-day life, though he realized it was a necessary evil. It solved as many problems for him and his brother as it created, so he dealt with it as best he could. Fortunately, Isaac had always had an affinity with computers and phones, so he tutored Matthew.

“Yeah, all right. I’d better go and find my phone first then, eh?”

Smirking at his brother’s rolled eyes, he left the room and headed for his own bedroom, where he thought he’d left the device the previous night before he and Isaac had headed for the caves. Immediately spotting the mobile phone—which Isaac often made a point of telling him was akin to a brick—he grabbed it, stuffed it into his pocket, and made his way downstairs.

Retrieving his keys from the hook by the front door, he called up to his brother. “I’m going now, Isaac. I’ll see you after my shift at the pub. I’m working until closing time.”

“Okay. Don’t forget to keep me posted!”

“I won’t.”

As if he could forget. The dead sheep was going to be a big thing, he just knew it. The vicar might not think he and his brother had anything to do with it, but some of the other villagers might. When there was no proof either way, just his and Isaac’s word, it was understandable, really. Since he and his brother changed into wolves every full moon, it was a natural conclusion to draw. Particularly since normal wolves had been extinct in England for over five hundred years.

Lost and Found by Linnea Alexis

Blurb:

After Haley Monroe’s estranged husband drops dead, she discovers he left her with a whole lot of debt and most of her family heirlooms missing. Too bad the only person who can help sort through the mess and clear her name is her late husband’s attorney…her only one-night stand and a man she never thought she’d see again.

Attorney Eli Libertini jumps at the chance to help Haley clear up the financial mess. He’d like nothing more than to reconnect with his hookup from spring break ten years ago—the woman he’s never been able to forget.

Thrown together in a dark fairytale adventure, the twosome uncovers a web of hidden heirlooms, ghostly encounters, and mysterious storage units about to be auctioned. They’ll have to forget the past in order to regain their shared passion and have a future.

Excerpt:

“Haley. Haley Monroe,” a man shouted. His deep voice sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she’d heard it before. “Haley! Fancy meeting you here.”

Curious who had called her name, she turned to face the voice.

The man revealed himself. Eli Libertini—as in Libertini and Farthing—her husband’s lawyer. Eli was tall, dark, and ruthless. The armor on his knight’s costume shone like silver in the sunlight.

The man with him wore a monk’s robe. He stood nearly a half-foot shorter than Eli’s six-two and had at least twenty-five pounds of pure muscle on the lawyer.

If Eli hadn’t represented her husband during their bitter negotiations, she might consider him attractive. After all, she’d thought so ten years ago. And he hadn’t changed much during that time. He still wore his dark hair past his shoulders—shoulders much broader than she remembered. He’d even managed to grow taller and fill out very nicely, thank you very much.

But their heated exchange during the legal proceedings had left a hostile taste in her mouth. And nothing, not even his wide, single-dimpled smile, could erase the memory of the hurtful, untrue allegations he’d hurled at her.

“Fancy indeed,” she huffed.

Her Psychic Dreams Come True. Wake Me, Book One in the Hidden Destiny Series by Alexa Bourne.

Blurb

Sarah McKinley’s attempts to take her foreknowledge of crimes to the Seattle Police Department marked her as a troublemaker and were never taken seriously. Starting over in Austin, she plans never to reveal her gift, but shortly after she arrives, the dreams begin again, and the local police want to know why she has knowledge only the killer could possess.

Detective Jesse Cordell watched his mother con people with her “psychic ability” all through his childhood. He hones in on Sarah, who has means, motive, and opportunity to have murdered the victim in his current investigation. Instinct tells him she didn’t commit the crime, but she definitely knows more than she’s letting on.

Can he put aside his doubts and join forces with her, against everything he believes in, to find the real killer? Or will he do his job and put her behind bars? After all, there’s no such thing as the “psychic ability.”

Or is there?

Excerpt

The buzz around her head grew louder as more students joined the crowd. Yellow tape secured the crime scene several yards away, but limbs still stuck over the cement edge of the water fountain.

A guy in plain clothes ducked under the tape and ventured toward them. A gold shield hung from his belt. “Can anybody tell me what happened?”

“She can!” a male voice from behind called out.

Hoping to take attention off herself, Sarah joined the other students in whirling around to see who the guy meant. Several voices rushed toward the man, accosting him with different versions of the crime. Sarah floated through the sea of people, away from the crowd.

For the nine months, she’d lived in Austin, she’d never mentioned a word about her so-called psychic gift. Almost a full year had passed. She’d started to think she would be normal again.

But a brand-new dream reminded her she would always be different.

Heading toward the street, she picked up her steps. Don’t look back. You’ve done enough damage.

“Miss! Hey, wait up!”

“Damn.” She slowed her feet. No point in trying to run. She’d look guilty of something then the cops would have a reason to haul her off the school campus in cuffs.

Turning, she came face-to-face with the striking plain-clothes cop. “I’m Detective Cordell with Austin Police.” He stood at least six inches taller than she, his jet-black hair sheared in a standard cut for police. The bulk of his chest stretched the material of his short-sleeved dress shirt. With dark eyes and sexy confidence, he was all sorts of captivating. If he hadn’t been such a threat to her freedom, she might even have called him handsome. “Do you have a minute? I’d like to ask you some questions.”

There died his charm.

Author of 'Love, Lies & Deceit,' Carol Preflatish

Scribal Love Welcomes Carol Platfish...

What inspired you to write this book?

"Love, Lies & Deceit" is about the CIA. Ever since I was a child, I have always been a fan of spy movies and television shows. It seemed like the logical thing for me to write about. Espionage is just so interesting.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I tend to write a lot of dialogue in my stories, which can be good or bad. When I read a novel, if there is a large about of narrative, I tend to skip over it. Some narrative is needed, but sometimes it can be overwhelming.

What is the name of your latest book?  And how did you come up with the title?

"Love, Lies & Deceit" is my latest book and the title came from another piece I had written as a fun project. I really like the title and have had so many people tell me that is what drew them to the book.

What is "Love, Lies & Deceit" about?

It's about CIA Officer, Jason Reid who is arrested for treason. So, he turns to the one person who he trusts, Julie McBride, his rookie trainee and also the one person he was not supposed to fall in love with. How can she turn him away? She loves him, too. Together, they travel the United States and France to find who set Jason up and to prove his innocence.  You can find a buy link for “Love, Lies & Deceit” on my web site at http://CarolPre.webs.com

What books have most influenced your life most?

I don't think there has been one book that has been an influence on my life.  Since I was a child, I have always loved to read biographies. I remember going to the library and each time getting a couple of those short biographies on historical figures. Gosh, I remember reading about Kit Carson, Annie Oakley, and George Washington. I loved those books. In my adult years, I have admired the biographies written about regular people who have been thrust into the limelight, such as the Duchess Sarah Ferguson.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

I have so many authors that I admire. I think the one that stands out the most is  Stephen King. I am not a fan of horror books and have only read a couple of his, but I bought and read his biography, "On Writing." I was truly inspired reading about his road to being a published author.

What books are you reading now?

Currently, I am reading "Hard Truth" by Nevada Barr. I am also hooked on James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. I have the whole series and am waiting for #9 to come out in paperback.

What are your current projects?

The manuscript I just finished is another romantic suspense about a New York City magazine writer who comes to rural Indiana to research a story about a 30-year old mystery of a missing family. She meets the handsome local sheriff, who ends up rescuing her in more ways than one. I’m doing an edit of it right now and hope to get it out to a publisher soon.

Do you see writing as a career?

My goal is to make it my career, but I think that’s a long-term goal. I work full time in a day job right now and that takes up most of my time. My writing is usually confined to late at night or on weekends.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I don’t think a writer ever thinks their book are perfect. I could edit it a hundred times and still probably find something I want to change. There are a couple spots in my book that I think I could have reworded to make it better, but the editor thought it was okay, so I’m fine with it.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I remember when I was elementary school age, I wrote a play, but my serious interest in writing came when I was in high school and took an Expository Writing class. It was all non-fiction type writing, but I loved it. I worked on the school newspaper for a couple years and was the Sports Editor for one year. I minored in English in college. I took every writing class they had, but unfortunately their emphasis was more on literature than writing. I became interested in writing fiction in 1999 and made my New Year’s Resolution for the millennium to write a full novel and I did that.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Two things, finding the time to write and then marketing the book after it’s released.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learn things from every book I write. If I am writing about a location where I have never visited, I have to do extensive research on the area and learn so much about that. With “Love, Lies & Deceit,” I had the help from my husband about espionage. He was a counter-intelligence agent in the Army and he was a big help. For instance, I would ask him about how to do an officer would do a dead-drop and he would explain it for me. He’s also an electronics technician and very helpful with the electronic portion of the story.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

When I begin writing, I was so ignorant about how to format a manuscript, write a query letter, and publisher guidelines. I joined some Internet writer’s lists and learn so much from the experience of those writers. I would also recommend joining and writers’ groups or organizations in your area to have other writers to talk to. The main thing is to become a sponge and soak in as much as you can.

Thank you for dropping by!

Thank you so much for hosting me here today. I have really enjoyed my time with you.
