Lt. Colonel Medoro Keegan, is the one charged with keeping his crew safe but finds that his feelings for Caitlin are doing more harm than good.

--

Cold Warriors (Book 1)

Left in cryogenic stasis for nearly a century, Caitlin Driskoll is awakened and drafted into a war she knows nothing about. Expected to defend a world where her kind is despised and expendable, she discovers love and respect from the one man who can’t be associated with her.

Lieutenant Colonel Medoro Keegan has spent a lifetime in the Marines. With no family to speak of, the Corps and his ship, the USS Blanchard, are all the loved ones he needs…until Caitlin sparks a fire within, that threatens to consume him if he doesn’t walk away.

Will he choose a life of certainty in the only world he knows or give it all to Caitlin and run the risk of losing someone, yet again?

Excerpt

He didn’t know what to say. His first clash with her had distracted him to the point of madness. It had been some time since he’d had such a powerful encounter with a woman. The last one to push his buttons that hard, he wound up marrying.

Caitlin was stubborn, mouthy, somewhat insubordinate, and filled with an innate force he had not seen in sometime. She had no problem in standing up for who or what she believed in. He didn’t like the feelings she stirred in him. He dare not consider them. Especially with her. She was a subordinate and a cryo. It was against regulations for him to even think of starting anything with her.

He shifted his stance. His heart pounded in his ears and breaths quickened. “Ms. Driskoll. I don’t know what you expect from me.”

“Nothing more than I expect from myself.”

Before he knew it, he crossed the distance between them and swept her into a searing kiss. He caressed her body, touching every curve. Arousal sped through his body like lightening. He dug his fingers in her hair and hungrily dominated her mouth, his tongue delving in, playing with hers. Gripping her waist, he lifted her up and placed on her the table. She arched her neck exposing her creamy skin. He nipped and bit at it enjoying its smoothness. He reached up and caressed her breasts, a need filling him to see them, taste them.

He was ready to slip off into oblivion when he remembered himself. It was the middle of the day; they were in a briefing room and would be caught. Breaking off the kiss, he raised his hands in surrender.

“Jesus,” he said in between breaths.

“What?” she panted, as she straightened her uniform.

“Please leave. Just go.” He closed his eyes, wrestling his feelings into submission. Holding them down, he shuddered. Dear God, help me. He needed her so badly. His breathing slowed to a normal rate. When he opened his eyes, she was gone.

“Sir, you’re needed on the bridge,” the voice on the com said.

“Be right there,” he replied, grateful for the distraction.

Ice and Peace (Book 2)

Blurb

A New Threat? After a long and vicious war, peace is on the horizon for Earth and its allies. However, a series of mysterious attacks on several secret military installations causes hostilities to rise once again.

Redemption. Having left under a cloud of disgrace, retired Marine Colonel Medoro Keegan is called back to duty.

Bound. His wife Caitlin, the only surviving member of her team, chooses to embrace life, albeit grudgingly, as a cryo soldier. Seen as sub-human, she is forced to serve a planet that denies her rights as a person.

Driven. Guided by their sense of duty and belief that some things are bigger than them, they are determined to risk it all.

Hope. The cost of war is high. Can their love and marriage survive? Or will it be killed off by the very same mission that brought them together?

Excerpt

Caitlin was a sight for sore eyes. She was beautiful. Her petite frame was perfectly accented by the curves of her figure. And her brown eyes and coffee-brown skin was smooth, creamy.

Standing at attention, she did not meet his gaze. Though it was customary not to do as a sign of military courtesy, he could tell she was not doing it for that reason. Her gaze was different. Circling her, he tried to see if he could catch her watching him out of the corner of her eye. In fact, she appeared to be staring blankly ahead.

Peering directly at her, he spoke in a soft tone. “At ease.”

She relaxed.

“Cate. Can you hear me?”

“Yes, sir,” she responded mechanically.

Pain pierced his insides. She was definitely not there. Keegan placed his hands on his hips and hung his head in defeat. The one thing that was supposed to go right did not. For whatever reason, they had placed her in a deeper state of mental control than she’d ever been in. He controlled the hostile emotions brewing with him. Touching her face gently, he felt her icy skin.

This is unacceptable! Not here. I will not let this happen here. Not under my command.

“Chief, listen up,” he said in an authoritative tone. He knew in this state, it was the only way he could speak to her and still have her respond.

“Yes, sir.” Her gaze became even more distant.

Her response fueled his anger. “You are going to hightail it down to the doc and receive a full examination. Tell him it is based on my orders. He will know what to do. Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

Knowing that she was under the influence of cryo neurotransmitters, Keegan figured the only way to combat it was to get someone to reverse it. They usually wore off once she was away from the stimulus triggers for a long period of time. But considering her stimulus triggers were high-ranking officers in uniform and combat situations, being around here meant she was going to be in a drone zone for a very long time. The last thing he needed was a zombie on board, especially one in charge of the lives others.

Only the jerks in psyche warfare thought doing this to someone would be a good idea. As long as he was running the ship, none of that would be allowed. There weren’t going to be any super zombies soldiers on board his ship. And he’d rollover in his grave before he let them do it to his wife.

“After you come back from the doc, you will report to me, understood?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Are there any questions?”

“No, sir.”

“Dismissed.”

She did an about face before leaving the room. Keegan clasped his hands behind his back. In the blink of an eye, his joy had turned to sorrow. Now faced with the responsibility of looking after his wife, he wondered how could he handle the burden of command and still protect the woman he loved.

The only problem, is Sig’s not ready to open up and Lauren doesn’t want to be sued again. But if they work past the issues, there’s a world of wonder in store.

Excerpt:

"Now please explain to me why you’re here and not Logan.”

“I am Logan… Garrett Rogers. On my info sheet I listed my legal name, but everyone has always called me by my middle one so I wouldn’t get confused with my father. Thought I told you that when we met?” He picked up his menu then, cutting off any visual contact.

“Must have slipped your mind.” He’d tricked her, used her, and for what fucking purpose. “Like telling me you were manipulating me like some sub with a fetish.”

The menu came down about a half an inch exposing those stormy gray eyes of his. “Excuse me? If I’d told you about tonight, about me being your date, would you have shown up?”

She hesitated, reaching up to touch the bun at the back of her head, making sure the coiled hair held tight. The urge to lie and say yes on the tip of her tongue. Yet, she abhorred lying… at least most of the time. This might be one of the times she’d be willing to do it.

“Don’t you think about telling me a fib, Lace.”

Faking surprise she batted her lashes and went for demure. “Why I’d never?”

“The hair touching says otherwise. Remember, I’ve seen you lie before. Do it now and I’ll make you pay for it later.” He thought pretty highly of himself, threatening her like that. So, the truth is what he earned.

“Nope, I’d have canceled right away. Because this is silly, incompatible, and foolishness.” She lifted a glass of ice water to her lips, hoping a sip would cool her heated skin. The way he talked sometimes, the way he knew her made the air seem stuffy.

“I don’t think wanting you is any one of those things.”

She jerked her head, then coughed as a splash of water went down the wrong tube. No way had she heard those words correctly. “What did you say?”

“I. Want. You.”

Adult Excerpt:

“Garrett, wait!” Her words came like a message from above. Crystal clear, and with a hint of determination. Maybe he was reading too much into it, but he wanted to believe she’d chased him because, otherwise, this would be the last super-personal interaction they had. She caught up to him and gripped his shoulder tight. “I’m coming with you.”

He stopped and faced her, all of the five foot and five inches, flushed pink, blue-dress-wearing beauty. “Then you agree to the terms. We start now, the scene begins. You submit. No waiting, no more games.”

“But after I’m done, then you’ll submit to me.”

Garrett nodded. “Agreed. As long as you don’t hold back.”

“I won’t.”

He grinned at his success. Next, he’d test the freedom. “Then, walk in front of me, no words, and go to the passenger side door of my truck.” With where he’d parked, that side of the truck would be blocked from the front entrance of the restaurant and street.

She did as instructed, executing a slow, seductive strut, rounding the side of the building, and stopping in front of the passenger side door to his F-150 double-extended cab, black pickup. He’d be lying by trying to deny his erection or the fierce desire to have her this second. Unlike his Dominant counterparts, he didn’t need a scene to do the deed. No, he could have tantalizing sex without any provocation. The irony was he’d never known Lacey to be the same way. She always hid within a scene to get her jollies off.

He refused to let her hide. Right. Now. “Turn and put your arms against the truck, palms flat.”

“But—”

“I said no talking.”

She went through the motions, her expression showing frustration.

“Now, spread your legs by two inches.”

The great thing about both of them being Dominants was she knew the measurements and all the directions as well as an understanding of the instinct to follow—she’d never confess to such a thing, though. Once her legs were the proper distance, he leaned in, trailing the tip of his tongue along the shell of her ear, as his wandering fingers moved up the inside of her bare thigh and underneath the hemline of her dress. Instead of encountering panties or a thong, he found her bare. Such a brave statement deserved a reward, so he nipped her ear.

“You sat there, exposed like this, and never told me.”

“It’s a surprise, or at least I planned it to be.” Her words came out in short breaths, and, judging from the moisture he found when he reached the apex of her thighs, she found this encounter as arousing as he did.

“Well, consider this my surprise.” He inserted two digits into her opening, pounding them into her without preamble. Then followed up by flicking her clit with his thumb. She moaned, her purse making a small crinkling noise as she clutched it tight and put more pressure on the truck door.

He gave her the side of his other palm to bite on. “You need to keep it down or you’ll give us away.”

Her teeth sank into his flesh hard, and he growled, continuing his onslaught to her vagina. Her leg muscles tightened, and her feet arched. She tensed against him, and then her orgasm crested. She shook, refusing to let go of her grip on his flesh, in both her mouth and below. He pulled out and brought his hand to his mouth, licking her cum from his fingers. She angled her head, watching him, and then relaxed her jaw enough for him to pull his hand out.

“Thank you.” He flexed his fingers, trying to shake away the imprint of her teeth and the residual pain pulsating through his muscles as he reached into his suit coat for his keys and unlocked the truck. “Hop in.”

Excerpt

“I said, what do you want?” Ven sounded furious as he took a step towards her and Caitlyn shrank back, dropping the cooler as she raised her hands as though trying to ward him off. The box tipped over, spilling its contents across the scruffy lot and the man swore again. He stepped around the mess of food and drinks, advancing rapidly and she caught his scent, amber and dark wood beneath a layer of fresh sweat. Her wolf, normally so quiet, surged forward and she realized in terror that she was practically toe-to-toe with her mate. And he was mean and angry.

Knowing what it was to suffer at the hands of a cruel man, she turned tail and ran as fast as she could. She plunged towards the relatively safety of the trees, kicking off her shoes and dragging her clothes free as she fled.

Her wolf was whining at her to stop, but she pushed on into the heavy brush. Pausing to shed her jeans, she crouched, letting the shift take her over but making sure she retained enough control to force the wolf to keep running. The wolf howled, desperate to turn back, to catch again the glorious scent of her mate and offer her throat in submission to his dominant presence.

A heavy crash behind had her doubling her efforts and her paws scrabbled over the soft ground, seeking purchase as she ran as though the hounds of hell were on her heels. She risked a glance over her shoulder and an involuntary yip of fright loosed from her throat. An enormous gray wolf was gaining on her with every stride, the snarl on his face more terrifying than the scowl he’d worn in his human form.

She put on another burst of speed, her wolf suddenly in accordance that escape rather than submission was the best idea. Dodging around a massive pine tree, trunk broader than her back, she pulled up short at the remains of another fallen trunk that suddenly blocked her path. A snarl set her in motion again and her claws scratched at the bark as she desperately tried to clamber over the downed tree. The wood was soft, rotten in places and her front legs slid from under her as a huge set of jaws clamped around the thick fur at the back of her neck.

-----

Excerpt

“I already paid off the police, at least for the moment. Until your cousin offers them more.” The words rolled off her tongue matter-of-factly as if this sort of situation occurred every day. His pants tightened at her words. A woman who feared nothing, who didn’t believe in danger.

“Very generous of you.”

“Hmm?” She stopped playing with her balisong knife and looked at him.

He came toward her, arms open, expecting her to move away from the door and put distance between them. She didn’t. “You protected me at your own expense.”

“I thought you might take my generosity as replacement for me losing the bet.”

Less than six inches separated their bodies. The pulse point at her neck fluttered, her breath shallow. Her knife stilled in her hand, closed, but ready to deploy. She waited for him to make a move.

The distinct possibility existed he’d be dead in the next minute, but her lips were deep red, like cherries he’d eaten in late summer. To leave them untouched would be a crime. “You thought wrong.”

He leaned in. She gasped, and then he kissed her.

She’d been kissed before, but it had merely been her parents’ chaste touches to her cheeks or forehead, and, once, her fiancé had brushed her lips with his. Otherwise, she had remained untouched until now. As he touched the tip of his tongue to her closed mouth, a sinful sensation swamped her body. Gooseflesh broke out underneath her clothes, and little hairs stood up on the back of her neck.

Sorella grabbed the lapels of his coat and opened her mouth. Something carnal took over, an instinct to engage his tongue in some primitive dance. If this was considered uncivilized, she’d gladly abandon society and all its norms.

As fast as the moment began, it ended, and Ian pulled back a few inches. “You taste amazing.”

He did, too; like peppermint, and…. “You taste familiar.”

Not as if she’d tasted him before, but somehow the aromatic tang of his mouth and the scent of his breath on an exhale resonated within her. She’d bottle it if she knew how.

 “Kiss me again.”

“As my captain commands.”

The Century Sage; A New Beyond Fairytales Novel by Vicki Ballante.

Blurb:

Lina is a tree sage, a gifted person who heals trees, but her duty binds her to one place for her whole life until she marries. Tree sages must marry and birth a daughter by twenty-eight, even if true love is out of the picture. When hot rally winner Brad meets her, he is drawn to her mystical powers. Lina can’t resist the man who represents something she shouldn’t go for, but neither can she turn away his sexy touch. Brad offers to marry her and take her on a world-wide rally tour. She can fulfill her dream of traveling, and he provides a way to meet the demands of her breed, but will that be enough? What about love?

When Lina settles in Paris, loneliness and unfulfilled expectations threaten to pull the shaky relationship apart. Could the barriers between them be caused by an evil greater than they imagined? Soon, they will have to fight for Paris, but will they survive?

Excerpt

She led the way through the darkened nursery to her front door. The fresh breeze from the trees calmed her, and she couldn’t resist stopping by the dwarf coral trees with their scarlet trumpet flowers gathered onto tapered spikes.

“These are one of the most popular choices for gardens.” She sniffed a flower and caressed a silky leaf.

“They’re hardy and grow fast, but don’t take up too much space.”

Her nerves were making her babble. Surprise shook her when his hand caressed the nape of her neck, his touch cool yet sending searing heat through her.

“You’re so gentle with them. Kiss me, Lina.”

She turned to find him inches from her. His breath smelled sweet like the rose or lavender bush, warm and fresh at the same time. She moved closer to kiss him, and as their lips met, shivers ran through her. Closing her eyes, she took in the full sensation of him surrounding her with solid arms. Joy and hunger for more mingled inside her.

If only she could have him.

“Let’s go inside,” he murmured, his voice husky. “I want to see you. The dim light coming from your front door doesn’t illuminate your beauty.”

For a first kiss, it was a little disappointing. Too quick, not enough savoring, little exploration.

“Don’t you want to look around?”

“Do you have a brochure I can look at?”

The trees nattered amongst themselves. Several of them seemed surprised she’d brought a man home. Smiling, she unlocked her front door, snapped on the lights, and directed Brad to her living room.

Immediately, her indoor ferns shimmered, and their leaves plumped up. Brad gaped at them.

No one had ever noticed the big part of her life—the way plants responded to her presence—before. Not even Henk had picked up on it.

“I feel it, too,” he whispered near her ear, sending spasms through her core.

“Feel what?” Her body moved toward unmistakable arousal. The disappointment from the hurried kiss faded in the brightness of his male aura. Could she resist?

“This power, this energy when you come into a room. The trees and plants pick it up. What sort of talent do you have?”

“I’m just like anyone else.” A lie, but she’d wished for normality her whole life.

“Oh, no you’re not. That’s what drives me crazy about you.” He ran sizzling hot fingers down her neck to the dip where her collar bones met. “Every time I see you, I get goose bumps on my arms. Tingles run up and down my legs. I struggle to breathe. It’s more than sexual attraction. I’m drawn to you, to your essence. I don’t think I could ever enjoy life without you.”

Adult Excerpt

She spun around to face Brad, who stood inches from her. Her body chilled then heated in one tumultuous second. “You’re back already?”

“I finished the race.”

Relieved he hadn’t noticed her conversation with the tree or the shakiness of her voice, she drew on every ounce of self-control to appear unaffected by his nearness. He smelled of motor oil, gasoline, sweat, dust, and raw power. She imagined him hovering over her, his stubble grazing her face, his lips locking with hers, his rock-solid arms pinning her down.

She swallowed. “Did you win?”

“I did.” He gave an easy smile as if winning were a given.

“That’s amazing. You must be over the moon.”

“It hasn’t hit me yet. I thought you’d left. I—”

“Don’t you have to go somewhere? I won’t leave. I promised.”

“I’ll wait for the awards ceremony. Nowhere to go yet. My agent’s lapping up all the attention.”

He’d rather be with me? Confusion sent her head into a spin. Her day had been strange, her responses to this man foreign to her. Longings that she’d pushed down for years surfaced. Speak before you do something stupid! “You look tired. Can I get you a drink?”

“I’d like that.”

He fell in beside her while she walked, and another odd sensation assaulted her. He belonged near her, just like she belonged in nature, amongst the trees where sap pulsed more than blood. This man’s veins seemed to pump hot and sexy and oh-so-desirable. Every fiber of her being strove to sense and memorize his movements.

She couldn’t help granting him a huge smile.

“Where do you live?” he asked as they reached the counter of the mini-bar in the clubhouse.

“Not far from here. Moreleta Park.”

“Oh, I’m staying in Centurion.”

A suburb near her. Her heart rippled as if in a breeze, and she became aware of the throbbing pulse in her neck. “Small world.”

“I want to see you again.”

He moved too fast. At the moment, she just wanted to drink a soda with him. “I don’t know.”

The bar lady handed them their drinks, her face rough and uninterested. He gulped his down.

“Another one?” Lina held back a laugh.

“I should be buying you a drink.”

“Nope.” She grinned. “You’re the winner.”

“I can’t believe it. It’s my first official win, and it’s nationals.” He glowed with a sense of achievement—that tired yet pleased feeling of having accomplished something great.

How could she feel this growing respect for him when he’d harmed the trees? “You must have trained hard.”

“I did. My family’s hardly seen me.”

She almost lost her grip on the soda. “I…. Are you married?”

He touched her elbow, guiding her outside. At once, her heart rate eased. She always felt safer outside near trees. She used the opportunity to make her way to the bride’s bush and stood under a branch.

“Nah, not a chance of that happening soon. I’m way too busy for a wife.” Brad leaned on the trunk and gave a relaxed smile.

She almost said good but kept her mouth shut. She didn’t want to appear like the anti-marriage type.

His gaze swept over her. “You like plants?”

Heat flushed her cheeks. “Why?”

“That tree’s practically kissing you.”

“What?” She spun around. The tree’s branch eased away from her head. The synergy and bond she shared with the trees had become so automatic she often forgot how it looked to other people.

“Are you real?” His pupils grew large, with…. What, tenderness, awe, curiosity?

“I am. You can see my ID book.”

“I’ll take your hand instead.” He reached out, grasping hers.

His palm was still moist from the soda can or maybe from driving like a madman, and his fingers were large, encompassing, and muscular. Her pussy tightened in immediate response, and she wished for more than casual sex with him. Wouldn’t a long-term relationship be perfect?

Yanking her hand away, she stumbled back into the tree, knocking a branch onto the ground. For the first time ever, she’d forgotten about one of the creatures and only thought of a human. Ashamed of herself, she edged away, her face flaming. “I-I’d better go.”

Wolf's Song by Taryn Kincaid. A New Book From The Decadent Publishing Black Hills Wolves Line.

Coming January 30, 2015

BLURB:

Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head, drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack alpha. Beaten by the alpha’s thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.

Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.

But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

EXCERPT (G-rated):

Summer McCoy perched in the uppermost branches of her special Ponderosa pine, in raven guise, engaging in her favorite pastime, spying on the lone wolf chopping wood below. Two days’ worth of whiskers shadowed his rigid jaw. She loved when he forgot—or didn’t bother—to shave. Scruffy stubble suited him.

The sun beat down on the back of his bronzed neck and shone on his hair, the color of roasted coffee, a shade lighter than the dark shadow that charcoaled his face.

She fluffed her feathers in anticipation. Take your shirt off, Brick. She’d heard the giant werebear, Gee, call him that name a decade ago. He’d made some joke about a wall and the hardness of the male’s head. But Brick hadn’t laughed back then. Not ever.

He’d fascinated her from the moment he’d arrived in the glade, bruised and battered. Once she’d learned his name, she’d treasured it, taking pleasure from repeating it often. Secretly, of course. Unwrapping the syllable frequently to admire its radiance in the privacy of her tree house, the way a woman wearing pearls against her warm skin enhanced their luminosity and iridescence.

Now, as if he’d heard her silent urging, he complied with her plea, shrugging out of the plaid flannel and flinging it onto a tree stump. Her beak opened as she sucked in breath. Sweat glistened on his torso, glazing rippling pecs and abs, shoulders broad enough to span the Badlands. A huge, incredible specimen of masculinity. Thick biceps flexed as he wielded the ax. Her heart beat faster than a hummingbird’s wings. Heat licked her.

ADULT EXCERPT

She did not move, except to lower her raised arm from its frozen position. “Why do you call me that…? Annabel Lee?”

“I don’t have another name.”

“Summer,” she said. “I’m Summer.”

Yeah. Def. When the berries plumped sweetest. “Suits you.”

His raging arousal made the words hoarse and jagged. Too harsh for this gentle female.

“Turn,” he murmured. “I want to see your face.”

A low growl escaped him before he could bite it back. “Your breasts.”

She turned then, slowly through the water, rounding to face him.

He sucked in his breath, his heart slamming against his chest. She was stunning and glorious. The beads of water rolling down her golden body sparkled in the sun. She glistened. All natural. No makeup. No artifice. Everything a female should be. And more. Much more.

Another pheromone cloud engulfed him. Her eyes went large and rounded, as if she guessed she’d zapped him with her hormonal lures, but couldn’t help emitting her sex juice any more than he could. Her nose twitched and she sighed, as if enveloped in a vat of melted chocolate, or whatever the fuck his own mating scent smelled like. He could only hope he gave off an aroma as rich and delicious as she did.

He struggled to control the raw savagery of his attraction and had to tear his eyes from her face. But her breasts…God, her breasts. Full and high, the exact size to fill his large hands, rose tips jutting toward him. He remembered how she’d touched herself, how much he’d wanted to replace her hands with his. Hell. He wanted to bury his face between those breasts, lapping at her, licking and sucking, take each one into his mouth, between his lips, grazing the pointed nipples with his teeth until he tore moans of delight from her.

His throat closed, his tongue swelling, filling his suddenly dry mouth, cutting off his ability to utter either animal sounds or inane words. After a beat or two of silence, she glanced away.

“What do you think?” Not shy exactly. Expectant. An undercurrent of doubt laced her question, as if she could not bear to disappoint him, and did not know what to make of his continued speechlessness.

“Perfect.” He rubbed his eyes. “Ah, Christ. You’re perfect.”

“No, I’m not.”

“You are to me.”

Lost and Found by Linnea Alexis

Blurb:

After Haley Monroe’s estranged husband drops dead, she discovers he left her with a whole lot of debt and most of her family heirlooms missing. Too bad the only person who can help sort through the mess and clear her name is her late husband’s attorney…her only one-night stand and a man she never thought she’d see again.

Attorney Eli Libertini jumps at the chance to help Haley clear up the financial mess. He’d like nothing more than to reconnect with his hookup from spring break ten years ago—the woman he’s never been able to forget.

Thrown together in a dark fairytale adventure, the twosome uncovers a web of hidden heirlooms, ghostly encounters, and mysterious storage units about to be auctioned. They’ll have to forget the past in order to regain their shared passion and have a future.

Excerpt:

“Haley. Haley Monroe,” a man shouted. His deep voice sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she’d heard it before. “Haley! Fancy meeting you here.”

Curious who had called her name, she turned to face the voice.

The man revealed himself. Eli Libertini—as in Libertini and Farthing—her husband’s lawyer. Eli was tall, dark, and ruthless. The armor on his knight’s costume shone like silver in the sunlight.

The man with him wore a monk’s robe. He stood nearly a half-foot shorter than Eli’s six-two and had at least twenty-five pounds of pure muscle on the lawyer.

If Eli hadn’t represented her husband during their bitter negotiations, she might consider him attractive. After all, she’d thought so ten years ago. And he hadn’t changed much during that time. He still wore his dark hair past his shoulders—shoulders much broader than she remembered. He’d even managed to grow taller and fill out very nicely, thank you very much.

But their heated exchange during the legal proceedings had left a hostile taste in her mouth. And nothing, not even his wide, single-dimpled smile, could erase the memory of the hurtful, untrue allegations he’d hurled at her.

“Fancy indeed,” she huffed.

Bitten by Snake Oil by Shiloh Saddler

A Beyond Fairytales Adaptation of The Brothers’ Grimm’s: The Old Man Made Young Again

Blurb

Since the death of his wife four years ago, blacksmith Jed Riker has been fighting his attraction to men. When sexy medicine-show man Peter Saint comes into Tumbleweed, Kansas, Jed buys his potion hoping for a cure, but receives vivid erotic dreams of the perfectly built salesman instead.

Jed uses all his strength and energy to fight the attraction in a town where the local preacher’s hellfire and damnation sermons promise repercussions if he dares to act on them. Can Peter Saint’s potions offer a solution and free the blacksmith to live and love as he wishes and not as his closed-minded neighbors demand?

Excerpt

A short, wiry man stood on the pullout platform in the back of his brightly colored wagon playing a banjo and singing about a miracle-working elixir. “Peter Saint’s powders and tonics can make the old feel young again and make the blind see. They can make the crippled walk and the ill-tempered gleeful.” Townsfolk doing their Saturday shopping gathered around, taking in the medicine show.

I couldn’t recall the last time a medicine show had come through Tumbleweed. Leaning against the side of my shop, I took in the entertainment from a distance, and my pulse quickened. The man’s strong, melodious voice captivated me. No, if I was truly honest with myself, I was more interested in the way he filled out that sharp salesman’s suit. If only I could peel off his navy-blue striped vest and white shirt to run my hands across the planes of his chest and then open his sable trousers.

The breeze ruffled Mr. Saint’s blond hair under his chestnut-colored derby. The movement drew my attention to the man’s emerald eyes. Realizing I was staring, I bent my head, and my cheeks heated. It must be nearing 100 degrees outside. I grabbed my shirt collar and tugged it up to wipe off some of the sweat oozing down my neck. I struck the match against the side of my shop and lit my pipe. Tobacco wasn’t as good a distraction as a cool glass of whiskey, but it would have to do for the moment.

Taking a puff on my pipe, I tried not to look at the man with the perfect build.

She Wants To Make Things Right. But Will He Let Her? Black Hills Desperado by D.L. Jackson

Dumbest Bank Robbers.

In Black Hills Desperado, my heroine, Xio Davis is arrested during a bank robbery. She later turns state’s evidence against her drug dealer boyfriend and goes into the witness protection program, or her version of it, going home to the Black Hills and her pack.

But sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Sometimes the criminals are a few bolts shy of a box.

Sometimes they get caught, sometimes they don’t. Having been in banking for over 16 years, I’ve received my share of robbery and fraud training. It is during some of this training, I’ve gotten to hear a few dumb bank robber stories from law enforcement officers.

My personal favorite happened in New Hampshire. I’d like to say it took place in Manchester, but I really don’t remember the town or city. But oh, it’s the location that sticks with me.
In this town or city, there is a police station that sits between a bank and a Dunkin Donuts. (I’m not picking on the police about the donuts; it’s really how the buildings are located)

Early one morning, Mr. Bank Robber decided to rob the bank as soon as it opened. Having parked his vehicle a few blocks away, he ran out of the bank, across the police parking lot, realized what it was and ran into the donut shop to hide.

But it gets better. Sitting at the tables, were half a dozen officers who’d just gotten off the evening shift. The rest is history. Moral of the story: If you’re hiding from cops, don’t take cover in a donut shop.

The next dumb robber didn’t have a pair of pantyhose to pull over his head, as you often see in the movies. Instead, he grabbed a plastic dry cleaner’s bag. After robbing the bank, he ran outside and got halfway down the block before he passed out from lack of air. He was cuffed and in the squad car before he regained consciousness.

Another of my favorite tales took place in Vermont. A robber scoped out several banks before deciding on which bank to rob. While in the last bank, he grabbed a deposit slip and wrote is robbery note on it. Confident, he crossed the street to his target bank. When he handed the note to the teller, the deposit ticket side up, she glanced down and explained he had the wrong bank. That deposit slip belonged to XYZ bank across the street. (I’m going to point out this was not the smartest move on the teller’s part) The robber took the note, crossed the street and robbed the bank he’d spent all the time in the lobby in, writing his note.

Meanwhile, the bank across the street had already called the police. He was arrested when he entered the parking lot. Two banks had video footage of him trying to rob the bank. Not a good day for him.

The last is a fellow who decided that opening an account would be a good way to scope out the bank. He presented the customer service rep with two forms of identification and sat down at a desk with her. Might I mention the IDs were valid.  Halfway through the process, he changed his mind and decided to rob the bank. The police didn’t have any difficulties finding him or recovering the money.

Black Hills Desperado releases January 23rd 2015 and is available for preorder now. I’d love for you to meet my bad girl from the Black Hills, Xio Davis, and her FBI love interest, Marcus Cazador.

She’s a bad girlfriend.

Blurb

Nothing Xio Davis does is right. When she abandons her pack, riding out of town on the back of a stranger’s motorcycle, she finds she’s bitten off more than she can chew. First, it’s small-time crimes, then bank robbery. As Xio sinks into the criminal underworld, the FBI catches up with her. Now, she’s got one way out: snitch.

When Xio turns state's evidence against a Mexican drug lord, Agent Marcus Cazador steps up to take her home, giving up his career, his place in the El Paso pack, and all he knows to protect her.

Xio claims she’s not the same wolf who left ten years before, but can she convince Marcus she’s changed her wicked ways? Or will the Black Hills be the end of the road on her long journey to redemption?

~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
“Good morning, Miss Davis. Let me introduce myself. I’m Special Agent Marcus Cazador of the FBI. Didn’t anyone ever tell you banks are most often robbed within the first few minutes of opening? We figured you’d be here, after the invitation we’d extended. Safest bank in Texas. I can see you liked the billboard at the port of entry. You and I have a lot to talk about, but business first.”
He’d used her real name, one she hadn’t heard in ten years. It sounded strange coming from his mouth, but also right, as though he’d been born to say it. Not good. This man was dangerous in so many ways. “Bite me.”
“You have no idea how much I’d like to.” A knee pressed down into the center of her back, and he yanked her arms behind her and slapped cuffs around her wrists. He rolled her to her back, sat her up, and tugged the mask from her face. “At last we meet.” And then he spoke the words she’d hoped never to hear. “You have the right to remain silent.”
