Paranormal Romance Author Mindi Ferrari discusses her newest work 'Midnight Assassins'

Scribal Love Welcomes Mindi Ferrari!

Mindi Ferrari is an author of Paranormal Romance.  Her newest work “Midnight Assassins ” is available from Secret Cravings Publishing.

What is the name of your latest book?

Midnight Assassins

And how did you come up with the title?

Love of course reminded me of hearts and while writing one of the scenes the main character gives a certain object to his love interest that's shaped like a heart. To me incorporating a line from the book and using it for the title always works. I even look for it in any book I read.

What is this book about?

Annie was definitely not ready for the life that was about to be handed to her.  She was dealing with a job she liked, but a boss she hated. She had no family and only one true friend. One horrible day took her life by surprise. Beaten and almost dead she finds her life in the arms of a handsome, over bearing vampire and wants nothing more than to stay put there forever, but can't seem to let go of her past.

Nicholie was definitely on a mission in his life; to kill the hunters that killed his sister Emma, and maintaining his life as an assassin which was more than time consuming. Closing in on a lead, he ends up finding Annie instead, and falls head over heels with this breathtaking human that he wants to make his own, testing his very belief system as a vampire.

And what genre is this book in?

Paranormal Romance/Erotica

Who is/are the main characters?

Nichole Telfair(vampire) and Annie (Human)

And why did you choose them?

Nicholie had this overbearing, tough personality that completed Annie's soft unspoken, very docile attitude. In my mind they were both completely meant for each other. I pictured him holding her in her arms. Her sweet big blue innocent eyes looking into his strong face. The scene of them standing in front of his bedroom window holding each other completely nude was what started the whole story.

What is the coolest or best part about your book?

I laugh thinking about this scene every time. While it may not be about the main character, Nicholie's best friend Jude is at a bar and Nicky watches him grab a woman and start dancing to Feel like making Love By Bad Company. It was just hilarious picturing this giant vampire with layers of muscles twirling around a small female on the dance floor. He became this giant lustful teddy bear. And given Jude's personality it just cracked me up and was the highlight of the book.

Do you have a favorite character in the book?

Jude, oh boy Judey(lol)

If so, why?

He such an arrogant prick, that gets all the women. His comments are hilarious and I built his character around being this man that dishes out so much friction in their lives. He's truly a jerk. But a big enough teddy bear that you want to see what he is about to say next. I truly looked forward to writing such a sexy mean man.

Is this book part of a series?

At first I didn't want it to be one but I felt Jude's story needed to be told and I myself wanted to see what would happen with the war on hunters.

If so? What can we expect in future books?

Definitely a lot of action and some heartbreak (a lot of sadness), my vampires pride themselves in their ability to torture the hunters. This next book in the series will focus so much on Jude's character and even a love interest which is huge for this boy.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Wow I learned to be patient with myself and I learned that the characters as much as you want to change them, really do have a mind of their own.

Do you have a publisher?

Yes Secret Cravings!

And if so, why did you choose them?

I loved what they stood for and I felt like they were more than a company but family. All the other authors are amazing as well.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Definitely J.R. Ward by far. She holds the bar so high in my world.

What books are you reading now?

Gena Showalter, Darkest Passion

What are the current writing projects that you are working on?

Wicked Games, another paranormal romance centered around angels. And a Contemporary Romance about a navy seal who falls for a romance writer. Also a self help/memoir on Lupus, RA, Fibromyalgia.

Do you write full time?

Well full time for me (winks)

If not, do you hope to do so one day?

Always like every writer out there we want to earn money doing what we love. But if not I will enjoy doing it even if one person reads my stories

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I was reading R.L. Stine and I was nine years old. I finished his first book and thought wow I will do this when I grow up.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

I have always had a tough time describing emotions and feelings. For example,
Here a sentence in my new novel I'm working on. “Vampire.” He scowled.

Finding the right word is very difficult and sometimes you have to dig really deep. I wonder if there is a book for this sort of down fall. haha

Do you have any advice for other writers seeking to get published for the first time?

Be patient. You will get a hundred no's but the first time you get that one yes it will be the best day of your life, hell I jumped for joy and screamed. Always remember to write for you and never changed your direction or your strengths because one person does not like it. It will be hard work but it will be worth it.

Never give up your dream and always push. And most important, find the publisher that wants you for you, don't sign with the first one that says yes just to be out there. Make sure it  is a good reputable company that respects their writers. I truly believe to that even the best writer needs advice on their work or could use a good critique partner because when you are trying to get published you need to be polished to perfection.

Erotic Lesbian and Gay Fiction Author, Berengaria Brown discusses her sexy book "Dogged Pursuit"

Scribal Love Welcomes Berengaria Brown!

Berengaria Brown is an author of erotic romance, mainly ménage, male/male, and some female/female. Her werewolf shifter male/male story, “Dogged Pursuit," is available from Torquere and has received 4.5 and 4.75 star reviews.

What is the name of your latest book?  And how did you come up with the title?

“Dogged Pursuit” is the story of Dwyer, a werewolf shifter, who is in love, and doggedly pursues the main he is certain is his mate, Nelson. The title just seemed to fit the story, a werewolf, a pursuit, and is a bit different.

What is this book about?  And what genre is this book in?

This is an erotic male/male romance, set at Halloween.

How long have you been writing in this genre?

I have been writing male/male since the beginning, but my first few books have male/male as just part of a two men/one woman ménage.

This is my first werewolf story. I was thinking about writing a werewolf book for Halloween and Dwyer said he wanted his mate so that was awesome. Then he told me he was gay, and that was a surprise, since most werewolf pairings are male/female. Fortunately, Nelson turned up in time to make them both get their happy ever after.

Who is/are the main characters?  And why did you choose them?

My characters imply arrive in my head. I was quite surprised to find Dwyer was gay.

In your opinion, what makes a good story?

I must care about the characters. I don't like plot holes and inconsistencies, but I can deal with them as long as the characters have engaged me in their story.

Can you give us a quick taste of what's inside?

Dwyer is a two-hundred-year-old werewolf currently working as a limo driver. He's enticed by the scent of a man he has to take into the city. The man's smell overwhelms him and calls to him “mate”. Yet he thought only a male and a female could mate, and he is gay. Nelson is equally attracted to Dwyer and the two spend a very hot night together.

However their second date is on Halloween and Dwyer is really struggling to keep his wolf under control. Their new relationship is derailed by a group of wanna-be vampires robbing an elderly couple and the elderly couple strongly believe Dwyer is their pet dog come back to life, because it is Samhain.

How is Dwyer going to get himself out of this mess? And what will Nelson's reaction be? Can they possibly have a future together now?

Is this book a part of a series?  And if so what can we look for in the future?

I am planning to write more werewolf stories and several people have asked me to write what happens next, so maybe...

Do you have anything specific you would like to say to your readers?

Thank you so much for reading my stories. Readers make an author's life worthwhile.

We Welcome Mary Abshire As She Discusses Her New Paranormal Erotica Novel, "Claiming the Evil Dead"

Scribal Love Welcomes Mary Abshire!

Mary Abshire is an author of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy.  Her newest work "Claiming the Evil Dead" is available from Noble Romance Publishing.

What is the name of your latest book?  And how did you come up with the title?

Claiming the Evil Dead. How I came up with the title...I made a short list of possible titles based on what the main character is going to do in the book, thought about them, and decided. Nothing too difficult. (smile)

What is this book about?  And what genre is this book in?

Paranormal Erotic Romance or Paranormal Romance.  The main character, Jessie Garrett, is half-demon and she  catches evil souls and sends them to Hell. She has a somewhat normal life and doesn’t trust other supernatural creatures.

A sexy vampire, Drake, finds her and offers her a job to claim the soul of an evil vamp. She accepts his offer. Needless to say, they have a few problems as they search for the evil vamp and she discovers she is attracted to Drake.

Then she bumps into a hot demon, Jeremy, who causes more problems, but also helps her. Besides dealing with evil spirits, vampires, and demons, she has plenty of her own internal conflicts to deal with.

Who is/are the main characters?  And why did you choose them?

Jessie Garrett is the main character. Drake, an vampire, is the second main character. Jeremy, a full blooded demon, is another important character.
I wanted someone good, bad, and in the middle. I'm not saying which fits which. (Guess)

What is the coolest or best part about your book?  (Any Favorite scenes, the world-building etc..)

There are several scenes that I like--when Drake and Jessie leave together, when Jessie meets Jeremy, when Jessie falls for Drake, when Jessie almost dies...twice. I think I might be giving away too much info here.

Do you have a favorite character in the book?  If so, why?

Yes. Jeremy. He's twisted, fun, and always causing trouble.

Is this book part of a series?  If so? What can we expect in future books?

Yes. The soul catcher series. The second book is Catching an Evil Tail and it involves werewolves. I'm working on finishing the third, Fighting Evil. Jessie struggles for her life, basically. I have an idea for the fourth book. There are so many evil souls in the world...

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I think I would introduce other supernatural creatures that have a connection to Drake. People connected to him would come in handy for future books that I have in mind.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned to have patience and not to give up. I was told numerous times from agents and editors that they loved my premise. I still got rejections over and over again.

Then I went back and made minor edits. I got a quick response from Noble and here we are today.

Do you have a publisher?  And if so, why did you choose them?

Noble Romance Publishing is my publisher. I reviewed several publishers and I liked what Noble Romance had to offer. They have great books, cover art is excellent, and they are growing.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Kim Harrison and Jeanine Frost. Two completely different styles, yet both are excellent.

What books are you reading now?

Circle of Fire by Keri Arthur

What are the current writing projects that you are working on?

Besides the soul catcher series, I have an Urban Fantasy novel I plan to submit in 2011. It will be in a series.

Do you write full time?  If not, do you hope to do so one day?

No, I don't write full time. I wish I did. I'd love to write full time one day. My goal is to retire at 50 and write full time.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

When I was a teenager, (computers weren't in every home) I was actively involved in the pen-pal world. I didn't write stories, but I loved writing and staying connected to people. I loved reading vampire books.

I've always had an interest in paranormal. A few years ago, I decided to take writing seriously. I wrote a piece of crap, but I kept writing. I can't seem to stop now. (smile)

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Making motivations clear are sometimes a challenge. I have to step back or put it aside for a while. When I revisit the piece, I usually see the error of my ways.

Do you have any advice for other writers seeking to get published for the first time?

Never give up submitting your work. Read and write EVERY day! Set goals, reasonable ones. In my opinion, it’s ok to go to a publisher instead of an agent. '

The market is changing so fast and there are very good publishers looking for stories. Opportunities are here for writers. As always, you have to do your homework and find out which publisher is best for your wants/needs.

Paranormal Erotica and Contemporary Author- Lucy Felthouse

Happy New Year!!

Scribal Love Welcomes Lucy Felthouse!

Lucy Felthouse  is an author of contemporary and paranormal erotica.  Her newest work 'Uniform Behaviour' is available from Amazon and All Romance eBooks.

So where do you hail?  Where are you from?

I was born and bred in Derbyshire in the UK. And I’m still there!

What inspired you to write this book?

I’d wanted to put together an anthology for some time. It almost came to fruition with a publisher, but then they sold up and I was back to square one. So I decided to go it alone, put the book together myself and use a distributor that had been recommended to me to get it into the online retailers.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I guess I do. A lot of what I write is contemporary, with characters around my age. So many of the female characters I write about have a similar personality to me, always come out with wise-cracks and love sexy men. I have been challenging myself more lately to create characters that are nothing like me, both in age and background and to give them a very distinct voice.

What is the name of your latest book?  And how did you come up with the title?

My latest book is called 'Uniform Behaviour.' The title had been rattling around in my ideas book for some time and it was only when I decided to put the anthology together that I knew the title would be perfect for it.

What is 'Uniform Behaviour' about?

It’s an erotic anthology. It has sixteen short stories from fourteen different authors about various uniforms. There are soldiers, pilots, sailors, cleaners, waiters and much more nestling between the covers!

What books have influenced your life most?

It’s difficult to say as I’ve been reading voraciously since I was old enough to read. I’ll read most things I can get my hands on, but naturally I have favourite genres, which are erotica, chick-lit and supernatural books. They’re also the genres I tend to write in so I guess they must influence my life!

Did you find the idea of having your work published for others to read intimidating?

No, not really. I found it really exciting! I figured that if the people who knew what they were doing thought my work was good enough to publish, then it couldn’t be that bad! It’s actually very rare that I like many of my stories when they’re finished, but I think it’s because after working on them and revising them, I get too close. So by the time I submit them I’m convinced they’re rubbish. Luckily, editors don’t seem to think so, and by the time the book has gone through the publishing process and I receive my author copy, I re-read the story and realize it’s not so terrible after all!

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

To be honest, the erotic writing community is so huge, cool and friendly, that I couldn’t consider one person to be a mentor. Many of them have influenced me, encouraged me and helped me along. However, writing is a pretty solitary task and my creative writing degree has given me the strong base I need to make my writing the best it can be. It also taught me not to be too precious about changing my work. At the end of the day, I’m writing for publication so it’s got to impress others, not just me!

What books are you reading now?

I’m glad you said books plural. I’m currently reading Monica’s Secret, by Saskia Walker, which I’m enjoying very much. I’m also reading Michele Hauf’s Seducing the Vampire, Girl Fun One from Xcite Books and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. That last one is proving a real struggle, but I’ve been told to persevere beyond the first fifty pages or so and it gets better. Watch this space.

What are your current projects?

I’m currently working hard to promote Uniform Behaviour. Writing-wise I’m working my way through a huge pile of calls for submissions for short stories. So hopefully I’ll have more books to add to my publications list in a few months – fingers crossed!

Do you find that international audiences are different from your home or native country's audience?

Within erotica, I don’t think there’s much of a divide. I’ll be honest, when I’m writing now I am aware of using words which are very “British” and could have an American, Australian, etc, reaching for the dictionary. I’d find it off-putting when I was reading if I didn’t know what a word meant. Luckily, you can work most words out from their context, but often I just won’t risk it and I’ll find a better word! However, because of the internet and improved distribution it means that all countries read works from other countries so we’re definitely getting a better handle on each other’s slang terms anyway. They’re even creeping into worldwide vocabulary. So maybe in a few years we’ll never know the difference!

Do you see writing as a career?

Not at present. I have a full time job in marketing, so writing is very much my sideline. However I’d love to do it full time, and my long-term goal is to write a full-length novel. Then of course I’d have to hope it was good enough to be published!

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, not really. I’m proud of what I and the other authors involved have achieved with the book. My only regret is that it’s only available as an eBook.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

No, I don’t remember. It’s always been there. As a small child I was always reading and writing. I guess that my love of reading had a lot to do with it though, I probably wanted to create something as cool as what I was reading!

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Yes – coming up with titles! I really do struggle with titles and they often pop into my head quite a while after the story is finished. Other than that I think that writing is a constant learning curve and I hope that I’m improving all the time.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Not so much from the writing point of view, but definitely from the editing side. I learnt that I’m good at proofreading, but not perfect!

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Yes – just do it! For too long I kept talking about doing certain things in writing and never actually getting around to it. Now I’ve set myself realistic goals and I’m doing my hardest to achieve them. Naturally, life and the day job can affect what I’m doing but all I can do is my best.

Paranormal Erotica Author, Courtney Breazile, Discusses Her Novel "Mating Call"

Scribal Love Welcomes Courtney Breazile

Courtney Breazile is an author of Paranormal Erotica. Her newest work Mating Call is available from Extasy Books.

What inspired you to write this book?

This is the fourth in my paranormal series Immortal Council Series. I was inspired by the idea of giving this heroine a lover, she is a part of other stories in the series, and not a nice character. She needed to be taught some acceptance and what better way then with hot sex?

Do you have a specific writing style?
I don’t know what it would be, but I’m sure I do. I imagine all my stuff has a similar style, although not an intended one.

What is the name of your latest book?
And how did you come up with the title? Mating Call. It relates to the way each species in the book recognizes its mate.
What is Mating Call about?
Lillian, an Animal Elf, takes on the task of saving a young werewolf, Henry. She discovers he is her mate, although she tries to deny it. She needs his help, however, to find and protect her daughter. Their mating can’t be denied, as they find out.

What books have most influenced your life most?

I have always read, not sure what has been the most influential. I always enjoyed Horror from Stephen King and Romance from pretty much anyone I could get my hands on growing up. Since then I have leaned heavily toward paranormal. I don’t find too much I don’t like.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I love Karen Marie Moning…she could mentor me and I would be happy.

What books are you reading now?
I have been reading a lot of Kresly Cole lately.

What are your current projects?
I am working on the next in this series as well as a couple other things.
Do you see writing as a career?
I do, although I haven’t been able to quit my day job quite yet.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No, I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I don’t know, but I always enjoyed it.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Sometimes its difficult to keep things straight, so I keep copious notes on characters and such.

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I think I learn how to be a better writer every time I write a new book, so yes, although I can’t pinpoint what it may have been.
Do you have any advice for other writers?

If you are a new writer…Keep writing! Don’t give up, just keep perfecting your art.

Where can we find you on the web?
